Causal effects of endometriosis stages and locations on menstruation, ovulation, reproductive function, and delivery modes: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
BackgroundEndometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of women during their reproductive years. The relationship between the severity and location of endometriosis and menstruation, ovulation, reproductive function, and mode of delivery remains ...

Observations of Simultaneous Sperm Release and Larval Planulation Suggest Reproductive Assurance in the Coral Pocillopora acuta

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Despite being an extensively studied group of corals, the reproductive biology of the scleractinian genus Pocillopora remains a mystery. Pocillopora acuta has been proposed to exhibit a mixed reproductive mode, sexually producing gametes (sperm and eggs)

Features of the manifestation in small breed dogs’ reproductive function

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Veterinary Medicine, 2020
The andrological clinical examination of small breed dogs was carried out and according to its results, were established the group, breed, age, and performance dependence of the reproductive function manifestation in small breed dogs.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

What drives the shift between sexual and clonal reproduction of Caragana stenophylla along a climatic aridity gradient?

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2018
Background The reasons that clonal plants shift between sexual and clonal reproduction have persisted as a knowledge gap in ecological literature. We hypothesized that clonal plants’ shifts between sexual and clonal reproduction in different environments

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Reproductive habitat mismatch influences chytrid infection dynamics in a tropical amphibian community

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) has been decimating amphibian populations globally; previous work indicates that infection risk increases with moisture and thermal mismatch from a host’s optimum.
