Reproductive value, the stable stage distribution, and the sensitivity of the population growth rate to changes in vital rates [PDF]

open access: yes
The population growth rate, or intrinsic rate of increase, measures the potential rate of growth of a population with specified and fixed vital rates. The sensitivity of population growth rate to changes in the vital rates can be written in terms of the ...

Breeding ecology of a translocated population of red-crowned kakariki (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae) on Tiritiri Matangi island, New Zealand : a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Sciences in Ecology at Massey University, Albany, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The reproductive ecology of a translocated population of red-crowned kakariki (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae) was monitored during 2004-2006, covering two breeding seasons on Tiritiri Matangi Island.

Seed mass diversity along resource gradients: the role of allometric growth rate and size-asymmetric competition

open access: yes, 2018
The large variation in seed mass among species inspired a vast array of theoretical and empirical research attempting to explain this variation. So far, seed mass variation was investigated by two classes of studies: one class focuses on species varying ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Population dynamics of Heterodera schachtii Schm. and yield response of susceptible and resistant sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) after cultivation of susceptible and resistant oilseed radish (Raphanus sativus L.)

open access: yesJournal für Kulturpflanzen, 2014
Heterodera schachtii is an important pest of sugar beet. Field trials to quantify yield responses of sugar beet varieties to H. schachtii or to assess the effect of variety on population dynamics of the nematode are difficult due to its patchy ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

ANALYZING REPRODUCTIVE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES ON DAIRY FARMS [PDF]

open access: yes
Milk sales are the largest source of revenue on dairy farms. Reproduction is necessary to generate a new lactation. However, a pregnancy also dictates when the previous lactation must end so that the cow can retain sufficient condition into her new ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
