Unexpected spatial aggregation between two species of hummingbirds and their inconsistent spatial interactions with native and exotic plants in an urban ecological reserve

open access: yesIbis, Volume 167, Issue 4, Page 927-944, October 2025.
Hummingbirds play an important role as pollinators and are one of the primary examples of animal–plant coevolution. However, factors such as land‐use change, urbanization, exotic species introductions and the disappearance of native plants can negatively affect the persistence of hummingbird populations.

Early detection strategies for invading tree pests: Targeted surveillance and stakeholder perspectives

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 4, Page 857-871, April 2025.
We provide the first surveillance map for emerald ash borer incursions in GB with potential for deployment by government agencies and stakeholders concerned with biosecurity. Our framework establishes optimal surveillance locations depending on factors, including detection within different timeframes, knowledge certainty of entry pathways and ...

Dimensions of finite type for representations of partially ordered sets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We consider the dimensions of finite type of representations of a partially ordered set, i.e. such that there is only finitely many isomorphism classes of representations of this dimension. We give a criterion for a dimension to be of finite type.

Actinomycete integrative and conjugative elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper reviews current knowledge on actinomycete integrative and conjugative elements (AICEs). The best characterised AICEs, pSAM2 of Streptomyces ambofaciens (10.9 kb), SLP1 (17.3 kb) of Streptomyces coelicolor and pMEA300 of Amycolatopsis ...

Genetic architecture of Cercospora leaf spot response in table beet with implications for other Beta vulgaris crop types

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 64, Issue 6, Page 3352-3371, November/December 2024.
Abstract Table beet (Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris) production is threatened by the fungal disease Cercospora leaf spot (CLS). Infections are common across table beet's closest relatives, including Swiss chard, sugar beet, and fodder beet (all B. v. subsp. vulgaris).

Discovery of a DNA-binding Consensus and Potential Genomic Regulatory Binding Sites for the Thermus thermophilus HB8 Transcriptional Regulator TTHA1359 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Transcription factor (TF) proteins act as molecular mechanisms that modulate the initiation of the first step in the expression of genes, gene transcription. Currently, knowledge of the DNA-binding specificities and genes regulated by many TFs, including

Evaluation of Biomass Briquetting Mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The main task of this investigation is evaluation of patented (LV 14604 B) biomass briquetting mechanism. Theoretical relationship between necessary drive force and resistance force during pressing in die was determined.

Manganese‐dependent transcription regulation by MntR and PerR in Thermus thermophilus HB8

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 121, Issue 6, Page 1228-1244, June 2024.
Both MntR and PerR homologs in Thermus thermophilus HB8 are activated by manganese in vivo and regulate the expression of metal importers. In this study, the preferred DNA binding sequence of each transcription factor is identified, and the mechanisms of DNA‐binding regulation are explored.
