Micro and Nanostructural Diversity of Lizard Osteoderm Capping Tissue in Relation to Mechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that lizard osteoderm capping tissue is a hyper‐mineralized hydroxyapatite layer consistently covering the superficial osteoderm surface in those species studied here, yet it varies greatly in morphology, nanostructure, and mechanical performance across species.

Shape of the Doppler Sonographic Systolic Blood Flow Profile of the Pulmonary Artery of Healthy Racing Pigeons and the Influence of Anesthesia

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
There is scant information available about the blood flow of the pulmonary artery in avian cardiology. In human medicine, the shape of the Doppler sonographic blood flow profile of the pulmonary artery can be used to access the pressure conditions of the

Redefining Therapies for Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis: Synergistic Effects of Antimicrobial Peptides, Nanotechnology, and Computational Design

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)‐loaded nanocarriers provide a multifunctional strategy to combat drug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By enhancing intracellular delivery, bypassing efflux pumps, and disrupting bacterial membranes, this platform restores phagolysosome fusion and macrophage function.

Optical Diversity and Nanostructural Organization in the Colored Scales of Sternotomis

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Vivid colors in Sternotomis beetles originate from nanoscale photonic architectures embedded within individual scales. Here, we provide a comparative optical and structural analysis of 57 scale types that reveal how ordered, quasi‐ordered, and disordered 3D networks tune color, saturation, and angular response.

Evaluation of Lateral Ear Canal Ablation (LECA) as a Surgical Treatment Option for External Ear Canal Disease in Lop-Eared Pet Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus)

open access: yesAnimals
A soft tissue-filled external ear canal, sometimes also referred to as otitis externa in the veterinary literature, is a prevalent disease in pet rabbits, especially in lop-eared pet rabbits. The authors describe the clinical findings, diagnostic workup,

Sarcocystis moreliae sp. nov. in the imported green tree python Morelia cf. viridis (Reptilia, Pythonidae)

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2023
Species of Sarcocystis use various vertebrates as intermediate or definitive hosts in their life cycles. One of these is snakes, whose role as intermediate hosts for these protozoans is scarce; in fact, there are six records, but only three with ...

Genetic Control of Tissue Remodeling by a Non‐Coding SNP in ITGA8 Explains Carotenoid‐Based Color Polymorphism in Marine Mollusks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, the orange‐muscle giant abalone (Haliotis gigantea) is used as a model to identify a non‐coding SNP that disrupts the interaction between ITGA8 pre‐mRNA and the splicing factor ILF2, leading to altered ITGA8 splicing. These splicing changes promote carotenoid accumulation in abalone muscle through the regulation of tissue remodeling ...
