Population and distribution of beavers Castor fiber and Castor canadensis in Eurasia
A century ago, overhunting had reduced Eurasian beaver Castor fiber populations to c. 1200 animals in scattered refugia from France to Mongolia. Reintroductions and natural spread have since restored beavers to wide areas of their original range. The population has more than tripled since the first modern estimate in 1998, to c. 1.5 million.

Mitochondrial phylogenetics of the goshawk Accipiter [gentilis] superspecies
The goshawk Accipiter [gentilis] superspecies comprises four allospecies, the Northern Goshawk Accipiter gentilis, the Black Sparrowhawk A. melanoleucus, Henst's Goshawk A. henstii and Meyer's Goshawk A. meyerianus. We performed a phylogenetic analysis using samples from all recognized subspecies covering the whole distribution.

Avian influenza overview August – November 2018
Between 16 August and 15 November 2018, 14 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N8) outbreaks in poultry establishments in Bulgaria and seven HPAI A(H5N6) outbreaks, one in captive birds in Germany and six in wild birds in Denmark and the Netherlands were reported in the European Union (EU).
