Documenting Research Software in Engineering Science [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Abstract The reuse of research software needs good documentation, however, the documentation in particular is often criticized. Especially in non-IT specific disciplines, the lack of documentation is attributed to the lack of training, the lack of time or missing rewards.

The ABC of Software Engineering Research [PDF]

open access: yesACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, 2018
A variety of research methods and techniques are available to SE researchers, and while several overviews exist, there is consistency neither in the research methods covered nor in the terminology used. Furthermore, research is sometimes critically reviewed for characteristics inherent to the methods.

Successful software engineering research [PDF]

open access: yesACM SIGSOFT Software Engineering Notes, 1998
Rumination about what makes research successful is a strong indication that a researcher will not continue to do successful research. Nonetheless, the invitation to publish a short article in SEN on the occasion of being honoured by receiving SIGSOFT's "Outstanding Research Award" has led me to reflect on what I have done.

Computational Science and Engineering - Research Software Engineering Workflow : Research Report

open access: yes, 2022
A minimal example of a research report (internal technical report, article preprint, manuscript submitted to peer-review), cross-linked with research data, code archive and repository, as a part of the Research Software Engineering (RSE) workflow for Computational Science and Engineering.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Software Engineering Implementation Research [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Computer Science Research, 2016
Software engineering implementation is to apply software engineering theory for software development organizations in order to improve the product development time (T), quality (Q), cost (C), service (S) of software development organization. The most important is the engineering software development process, namely the establishment of a process with ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.
