Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Pre- and Postoperative Models for Prediction of Recurrence in Non-B, Non-C Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2021
Background and AimsThe incidence of non-B, non-C hepatocellular carcinoma (NBNC-HCC) is increasing. Like in hepatitis B virus (HBC)/HCV-associated HCC, treatment of NBNC-HCC after resection is challenging due to its high recurrence rate.

Role for targeted resection in the multidisciplinary treatment of metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The management of advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) has evolved in the modern era due to the discovery of c-kit mutations and the development of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs).

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Parasagittal meningiomas – literature review and a case report [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Investigative Surgery, 2017
Meningiomas are tumors that can develop anywhere along the neuraxis, but with increased concentration in some specific areas. Parasagittal meningiomas have the dural attachment on the external layer of the superior sagittal sinus (SSS) and invade the ...

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Glioblastoma: A Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
INTRODUCTION In 2017, it is estimated that 26,070 patients will be diagnosed with a malignant primary brain tumor in the United States, with more than half having the diagnosis of glioblas- toma (GBM).1 Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a widely ...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

RAGE limits regeneration after massive liver injury by coordinated suppression TNF-α and NF-κB [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The exquisite ability of the liver to regenerate is finite. Identification of mechanisms that limit regeneration after massive injury holds the key to expanding the limits of liver transplantation and salvaging livers and hosts overwhelmed by carcinoma ...
