Ventilation of the North Atlantic Ocean during the Last Glacial Maximum: A comparison between simulated and observed radiocarbon ages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The distribution of radiocarbon during simulations of the Last Glacial Maximum with a coupled ocean-atmosphere-sea ice model is compared with sediment core measurements from the equatorial Atlantic Ceara Rise, Blake Ridge, Caribbean Sea, and South China ...

Temperature‐Modulated Threshold Response in a Volatile Memristor: Toward a Biomimetic Polymodal Nociceptive System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an artificial polymodal nociceptor whose firing threshold is actively modulated by temperature. A volatile TiN/TiOx/ZnO/TiOx/ITO memristor shows interfacial ion–driven resistive switching and membrane‐potential‐like dynamics, enabling temperature‐dependent nociceptive behavior.

Simulation of Reservoir Sediment Flushing of the Three Gorges Reservoir Using an Artificial Neural Network

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2016
Reservoir sedimentation and its effect on the environment are the most serious world-wide problems in water resources development and utilization today.

Dispensing Volumetric Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dispensing volumetric additive manufacturing (DVAM) prints 3D structures inside a photocurable resin droplet suspended from the tip of a glass pipette, enabling sequential printing without resin vats or manual part removal. Real‐time droplet profiling and ray‐tracing‐based correction compensate for optical distortion at the curved resin‐air interface ...

Accelerated Organic Carbon Burial Rates Reconstructed in Elephant Butte Reservoir, New Mexico During a Megadrought

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Artificial lakes (reservoirs) accumulate sediment and organic carbon (OC) over time. We investigated sedimentation processes in a dryland reservoir and informed OC burial and potential preservation.

Chronology for climate change: Developing age models for the biogeochemical ocean flux study cores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We construct age models for a suite of cores from the northeast Atlantic Ocean by means of accelerator mass spectrometer dating of a key core, BOFS 5K, and correlation with the rest of the suite.

Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

A new global gas hydrate budget based on numerical reaction-transport modeling and a novel parameterization of Holocene and Quaternary sedimentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study provides new estimates for the global methane hydrate inventory based on reaction-transport modeling [1]. A multi-1D model for POC degradation, gas hydrate formation and dissolution is presented.

Post - sedimentation influence on filtration capacity reservoir rock properties (Pur-Tazov oil\gas-bearing area) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The processes of the second mineral formation (kaolinite, carbonates and micas) were identified during the post-sedimentation transformation studies in oil\gas deposits.

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...
