Types and Significance of Chlorine Residuals
Journal AWWA, 1959When the presence of residual chlorine in water can be demonstrated, the effectiveness of chlorination is definitely insured, and continues as long as the residual is present. Soon after the practice of water chlorination was started about 50 years ago, it was discovered that a control was necessary to insure disinfection. The method of control devised

Determination of Residual Chlorine Compounds
Journal AWWA, 1951emphasize the importance of accurate methods of determining concentrations of the various kinds of residual chlorine present. In two recent reviews Palin (1, 2) discusses the various methods which have been proposed and describes a new titration method.

Free Residual Chlorination in Indiana
Journal AWWA, 1949The principal source of supply is Flint Lake, 3 miles north of the city, where the 2-mgd. filter plant and the pumping station are located. The lake is approximately 90 acres in area, has a capacity of approximately 400 mil. gal. and is fed by a series of smaller lakes. Four wells are in operation and a new one is being built.

Continuous Recording of Chlorine Residuals and Determination of Chlorine Demand
1953Continuous recording of residual chlorine is not a new idea. Rather this has been the aim of scientists and operating personnel since chlorination of potable water was first placed on a continuous basis in 1908. Actually the development of reliable equipment for this purpose could not take place until the nature and characteristics of residual chlorine

Amperometric Residual Chlorine Recording
Journal AWWA, 1951MORE than two years have passed since the original installation of a residual chlorine recorder at the Wyandotte filter plant. One year of operation sufficed to convince the plant operators that, at last, an instrument was available for adequate and accurate control of the chlorination process for water purification.

AUTOMATED CHLORINE RESIDUAL CONTROL
Journal AWWA, 1969Automated chlorination can be accomplished by a variety of control systems, each of which leaves some margin for error and unbalance. A new system refines accuracy and stability by employing techniques that lead to system performance characteristic of the linear control loop.
