Interfacial effects in the entrapment and displacement of residual oil
AIChE Journal, 1974AbstractQualitiative theories are developed to explain the roles of surface tension and the two surface viscosities during the entrapment of residual oil by water and during the subsequent displacement of residual oil by surfactant solutions. The results are in agreement with available experimental data concerning the effects to be observed as the oil ...

Estimating Residual Seismic Displacements for Bilinear Oscillators
Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction, 2016AbstractAn important consideration in the design of structures for seismic effects is residual displacement. However, few design specifications have residual displacement criteria. As performance-based design gains popularity, the need arises to estimate residual displacements in structures from strong ground shaking.

Displacement discontinuity as a result of residual stress relief
2017 8th International Conference on Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (ICMAE), 2017The paper focuses on the problem of crack formation in an infinite strip with free sides as a result of residual stress relief. The formulas for residual stresses and for the corresponding displacements have the form of series in Papkovich-Fadle eigenfunctions.

On the Inversion of Residual Stresses From Surface Displacements
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1989When plastic damage regions are accumulated in a material, there exist residual displacements on the surface of the material after all the loadings are removed. The residual displacements are defined as the difference between before and after loading, and can be measured experimentally without destruction of the material.

Interfacial effects in the displacement of residual oil by foam
AIChE Journal, 1979AbstractA qualitative theory is developed to explain the roles of surface tension and the two surface viscosities in the displacement of foams through porous media. There is a critical value of the surface tension above which a foam cannot be displaced under a given pressure gradient.

Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration, 2020
Structures undergoing inelastic displacements during earthquake ground motions are known to sustain some amount of residual displacements, which may make them unusable or unsafe. In this study an attempt is made to estimate residual displacements for elastic-perfectly-plastic single-degree-of-freedom oscillators with a given lateral strength ratio.

Proceedings of the 33rd Annual ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2015
This paper explores discrepancies between the founding assumptions of mobile and ubiquitous computing in the western world, and the starkly different experiences of mobility and infrastructure to be found in many post-colonial environments. Based on a field study of forced mobility and technology use among populations displaced by the Hatirjheel ...

The Effects of Residual Displacement on Gap Damper Performance
2014Previous studies on base isolated systems have shown susceptibility to large displacements at the base level, leading to pounding between structure and perimeter moat wall during a maximum considered earthquake. Undesirable pounding can lead to very high acceleration in the superstructure.

Removal of the Residual Roots Displaced Into the Maxillary Sinus via Endoscopy
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2018Abstract Minimally invasive endoscopic surgery has been developed for various indications in the craniomaxillofacial area. 1 The case report presented in this article is focused on the possibility of removing the residual roots displaced into the maxillary ...
