World population growth currently brings unequal access to food, whereas crop yields are not increasing at a similar rate, so that future food demand could be unmet.

Inverse Simulation as a Tool for Fault Detection and Isolation in Planetary Rovers [PDF]
With manned expeditions to planetary bodies beyond our own and the Moon currently intractable, the onus falls upon robotic systems to explore and analyse extraterrestrial environments such as Mars. These systems typically take the form of wheeled rovers,

Non-linear Causal Inference using Gaussianity Measures [PDF]
We provide theoretical and empirical evidence for a type of asymmetry between causes and effects that is present when these are related via linear models contaminated with additive non-Gaussian noise.

Particle conservation in numerical models of the tokamak plasma edge
The test particle Monte-Carlo models for neutral particles are often used in the tokamak edge modelling codes. The drawback of this approach is that the self-consistent solution suffers from random error introduced by the statistical method. A particular

In ${\bf C}^{n+1}$, one can show that the residue of $n+1$ homogeneous forms of the same degree equals the integral of a certain $(n,n)$ form over ${\bf P}^n$. Furthermore, the Jacobian of the forms has nonzero residue equal to a certain intersection number. In this paper, we generalize these results to an arbitrary projective toric variety.

Spatial autocorrelation approaches to testing residuals from least squares regression
In statistics, the Durbin-Watson test is always employed to detect the presence of serial correlation of residuals from a least squares regression analysis. However, the Durbin-Watson statistic is only suitable for ordered time or spatial series.

Environmental costs of residuals: a characterization of efficient tax policies. [PDF]
Durable goods leave residuals after being retired from use. If the environmental costs of the residuals are external to consumers and producers of the good, then overproduction and excess residuals will result. Ad valorem taxes are show to be ineffective
