Metal Ion–Induced Cross‐Linking in Mucin‐Inspired Peptide Hydrogels

open access: yesJournal of Peptide Science, Volume 31, Issue 11, November 2025.
Short fiber‐forming peptides were modified by histidine substitution and mannose or galactose attachment and combined with different metal ions. Although no generalizable trends were observed, Lys to His substitution at position 25 with galactose in the presence of copper produced a species with highly favorable viscoelastic properties.

Classification of Mammography Images Based on Multifractal Analysis of BIMFs

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biomedical Imaging, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Breast cancer is a real public health problem. Several women with this disease have died from it. Breast cancer is one of the deadliest cancers. Currently, the only way to combat this scourge is the early detection of breast masses. Mammography is a breast x‐ray that allows images of the inside of the breast to be obtained using x‐rays, thereby ...

Landfill tax and recycling

open access: yesFiscal Studies, Volume 45, Issue 4, Page 483-500, December 2024.
Abstract This paper provides new empirical evidence on the role of landfill taxes in reducing landfill waste and promoting recycling. We focus on the impacts of the 2017 landfill tax law reform in Catalonia, a Spanish region, which increased the tax rate from 18 to 47 euros per tonne over the period 2017–20.

Residues of Manifolds

open access: yesThe Journal of Geometric Analysis, 2023
The Riesz $z$-energy of a manifold $X$ is the integration of the distance between two points to the power $z$ over the product space $X\times X$. Considered as a function of a complex variable $z$, it can be generalized to a meromorphic function by analytic continuation, which we will call the meromorphic energy function of $X$.

Disentangling the separate and combined effects of privatization and cooperation on local government service delivery

open access: yesPublic Administration, Volume 102, Issue 4, Page 1624-1646, December 2024.
Abstract Inter‐municipal cooperation is often regarded as an alternative to privatizing local public services. But cooperation and privatization can also be combined into a dual reform package in which several municipalities jointly issue contracts relating to multiple jurisdictions.

Redox Gradient Shapes the Chemical Composition of Peatland Microbial Communities

open access: yesGeobiology, Volume 22, Issue 6, November/December 2024.
ABSTRACT The response of soil carbon to climate change and anthropogenic forcing depends on the relationship between the physicochemical variables of the environment and microbial communities. In anoxic soils that store large amounts of organic carbon, it can be hypothesized that the low amount of catabolic energy available leads microbial organisms to

Bioenergy feedstock supply from wheat straw: A farm level model incorporating trade‐offs in crop choices, disease risk, and soil fertility

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, Volume 72, Issue 3, Page 285-307, September 2024.
Abstract Second‐generation biofuel (e.g., ethanol, renewable diesel) can be made from crop residues. However, the availability of residues for biofuel production is uncertain, because farmers have the option to grow different crops and use the residues for alternative purposes, such as livestock bedding and feed, or leave them in the field to improve ...
