Integrating Pavement Friction and Macrotexture into a Speed-Dependent Pavement Safety Metric for Safety Performance Modeling

open access: yesLubricants
The paper proposes a pavement safety index, the estimated available friction at the expected travel speed, FRS(v), to model the composed effect of low-slip speed friction and macrotexture on roadway crashes.

Holistic Infrastructure Resilience Research Requires Multiple Perspectives, Not Just Multiple Disciplines

open access: yesInfrastructures, 2018
Resilience research includes multiple definitions, concepts, perspectives, and applications across a broad range of academic disciplines. While experts, policy-makers, and practitioners assert that resilience requires holism, what is considered holistic ...

Fiber‐reinforced Liquid Metal Composites With Automated Circuit Fabrication for Structurally‐Integrated Power Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fiber‐reinforced liquid metal composites (FibRe LMCs) are introduced that combine GPa‐scale structural performance with digitally programmable electrical conductivity. Through automated CNC activation, conductive pathways and wireless power transfer circuits are fabricated directly within load‐bearing composites, enabling structurally integrated ...

Spatially Regulated Lithium Plating via Li2O‐Rich Interphase Enables Durable Fast‐Charging Hybrid Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Li2O‐rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is engineered on graphite through a propylene carbonate‐based electrolyte to spatially regulate Li plating. The homogeneous interphase lowers Li nucleation barriers, promotes conformal Li deposition around graphite particles, and suppresses dendritic accumulation, enabling durable hybrid Li‐ion/Li‐metal ...

Resilience of metro systems subjected to external disturbances: A state-of-the-art review

open access: yesResilient Cities and Structures
Metro systems are important transport infrastructures in megacities, and their long-term operational safety is challenged by frequent external disturbances, such as environmental extremes and human construction activities.

Solution‐Processed Mn‐Doped 2d Perovskite Wavelength Shifters for Noble‐Liquid Photon Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Mn2+‐doped PEA2PbBr4 two‐dimensional perovskite films are demonstrated as large‐area wavelength shifters for noble‐liquid photon detectors. Mn2+ incorporation introduces a broad emission band at ∼620 nm with a large Stokes shift, suppressing self‐absorption and matching SiPM sensitivity.

Resilient infrastructure for network security

open access: yesComplexity, 2003
AbstractPresent‐day network security mechanisms are based on preventing attacks and responding to them as they occur. In the time before a response is implemented the attack is generally free to damage the system. Because responses are usually human driven, this time is long and the damage can be large.
