On the Influence of Antioxidants and Recycled MgO–C Source Material on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon‐Bonded Magnesia Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Designing and study of composites reinforced with shredded corn stalks using a variety of matrices based on dammar, epoxy and acrylic resins

open access: yesPolymer Testing
The primary goal of this research was to develop and evaluate environmentally friendly composite materials. Shredded corn stalks, regarded as both renewable resources and industrial by-products, were employed as the main reinforcement.

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Preparation and Characterization of Grinding Wheels Based on a Bioresin Matrix and Glass Sand Abrasives

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
A 100% renewable, easily-prepared, and industrialized abrasive grinding wheel was produced based on a biobased thermosetting resins matrix; the matrix was made of condensed tannin-furanic resin, originating from biosourced raw materials such as tree ...

Synthetic Resin Chemistry [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1948
DR. MARTIN'S book is best considered as an extremely practical guide to laboratory experiments for the student of synthetic resin chemistry, interspersed with an introductory survey of the theoretical side of this complicated field. The fifty-odd experiments are novel and well chosen ; and it is difficult to know where else one could find details of ...

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion
