Theoretical analysis of shunting effect in resistance spot welding (RSW) of AA2219

Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, Transactions of the Chinese Institute of Engineers,Series A/Chung-kuo Kung Ch'eng Hsuch K'an, 2016
AbstractShunting effect is the loss of electrical current via the secondary circuit provided due to existence of previous nugget in a series of welding spots. This phenomenon is important for products containing intermittent spots. In this study, a theoretical model is developed for shunting effect in resistance spot welding for aluminum alloy 2219 ...

Evaluation of Load-Bearing Capacity of Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) Joints Made of Titanium Gr 5 Sheets

Key Engineering Materials, 2016
The paper presents an analysis of load capacity for welded specimens made of titanium Grade 5 of 0.8 mm thickness. The lap joins were made by Resistance Spot Welding (RSW). The load capacity for joints with a single spot were assessed. The joints were welded with 5 variants of welding parameters.

Failure Mechanism of Al–Steel Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) Welds and a Metallic Bump Printed on Al Sheet-Assisted RSW (MBaRSW/Al) Welds During Lap-Shear Tests

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2021
The metallic bump-assisted resistance spot welding (MBaRSW) weld formed between Al and steel had higher strength and better ductility than the RSW welds. The fracture behavior was investigated for both the RSW weld and MBaRSW/Al weld by printing metallic bumps on an Al sheet prior to welding.

Effect of Multi-Pulsed Current Mechanism on Shunting Current in Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) of AA-2219 Sheets

Experimental Techniques, 2021
Shunting phenomenon takes place when the electrical current passes through the prior weld spots. So far there have been few areas of the shunting impact studied while this is a prevalent effect in intermittent resistance spot welding (RSW). The magnitude of this current depends predominantly on distance, number, and the size of the previous spot welds.

Online Measuring Power Factor in AC Resistance Spot Welding

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2014
The power factor is a very important process variable in ac resistance spot welding (RSW) operation. Because of the variation of welding load during the welding process, the power factor is a time-varying variable.

Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) for Automotive Body Construction

Volume 3: Design and Manufacturing, 2007
There has been a substantial increase in the use of advanced high strength steel in automotive structures in the last few years. The usage of these materials is projected to grow significantly in the next 5–10 years with new safety and fuel economy regulations. Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) are getting popular with superior mechanical properties

Enhancing the Performance of Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) Through in-situ Heating and Welded Joints Quality: Overview

Metal Science and Heat Treatment
