Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Optimal control and approximate controllability for second-order integro-differential equations with state-dependent delay and non-instantaneous impulses

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations
This article concerns the optimal control and the approximate controllability for second order integro-differential equation with state-dependent delay and non-instantaneous impulses.

Schr\"odinger operators on the half line: Resolvent expansions and the Fermi golden rule at thresholds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We consider Schr\"odinger operators $H=- \d^2/\d r^2+V$ on $L^2([0,\infty))$ with the Dirichlet boundary condition. The potential $V$ may be local or non-local, with polynomial decay at infinity.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Difference families with applications to resolvable designs

open access: yesHiroshima Mathematical Journal, 1995
It is well known that difference families consisting of disjoint start blocks can be used in the construction of resolvable designs. The authors use sets of units in rings, for which the difference of any two of these units is again a unit (a well-known approach), to obtain such difference families and hence to construct some infinite series of ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Rate of convergence of attractors of reaction-diffusion equations with nonlinear boundary conditions

open access: yes, 2020
This paper we study the rate of convergence of the asymptotic dynamics of reaction-diffusion equations with nonlinear Robin boundary conditions. We show how the rate of convergence of the global attractors can be affected by the variation of the ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Approximation of inverse problems for fractional differential equations in abstract spaces

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
This article focuses on approximating a fractional-order inverse problem (IP) for an abstract differential equation in a Hilbert space. The main tools to find out the results are fixed-point methods, the α-resolvent family, and optimal control (OC ...
