Anharmonic Resonance

American Journal of Physics, 1953
The oscillations of a pair of classical oscillators which are synchronized because of anharmonic resonance can be calculated by the method of variation of constants. Two types of motion are studied: librational and nonlibrational—referring to oscillatory and progressive behavior, respectively, of the phase difference of the two oscillators.

Multiplicative stochastic resonance

Physical Review E, 1994
A multiplicative bistable stochastic system perturbed by a periodic forcing term is shown to exhibit stochastic resonance with increasing intensity of the multiplicative noise. Such an effect is related to the phenomenon of stochastic stabilization, which takes place in the unperturbed system.

Resonance—Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

2019
In this chapter, we will consider the principles of nuclear magnetic resonance to see how it can be exploited to generate signals from within the body related to the presence and properties of water within tissues. We will explore how radiofrequency waves can be used to exploit resonance phenomenon of protons placed within a magnetic field and the ...

Resistant Resonances:

In the United States, engineering and mental health-care professionals increasingly collaborate to develop vocal biomarker artificial intelligence, technologies that can supposedly detect mental distress by analyzing the sounds of the voice alone. This article draws from ethnographic fieldwork with individuals typically excluded from dominant accounts ...

The Resonance of Resonance

Philosophy & Rhetoric
ABSTRACT This article explores a state of movement in the humanities into nonhuman entanglements. A key term, “resonance,” emerges in this movement. Predominating scholarship orients resonance as a flourishing. In this article, accounts of the destructiveness of mechanical resonance signal a telling lacuna in humanities scholarship ...

Giant Resonances

2001
Abstract Giant resonances are collective excitations of the atomic nucleus, a typical quantum many-body system. The study of these fundamental modes has in many respects contributed to our understanding of the bulk behaviour of the nucleus and of the dynamics of non-equilibrium excitations. Although the phenomenon of giant resonances has
