Impact of uncertainties on resonant overvoltages following transformer energization
Electric Power Systems Research, 2020Abstract A number of changes in the power system have increased the risk for more serious resonances in the harmonic frequency range. The changes also result in an increased uncertainty with regard to the frequency and damping of those resonances. Uncertainties could be related to variations with time, uncertain future developments in the grid, and ...

Resonant overvoltages in HV cable testing
1984 IEEE International Conference on Eletrical Insulation, 1984An analysis of transient overvoltages that develop during impulse tests on HV cables indicates that a transient overvoltage can be initiated in the test cable as a result of a resonance phenomenon between the capacitance and inductance of the cable and the connecting leads.

Resonant overvoltages in wind turbine transformers
2015 IEEE Eindhoven PowerTech, 2015In this paper, modelling and measurement of resonant overvoltages in wind turbine step-up transformers is presented. A failed 2.7 MVA, 0.690 / 33 kV step-up transformer with the MV side consisting of delta connected layer windings and the LV side consisting of star connected foil windings is presented as a case study.

Resonance overvoltages in electric power networks
2005 IEEE Russia Power Tech, 2005Resonance exists in circuits composed of inductance and capacitance, possibly resistance. Resonance can cause big overvoltages in power systems. Many resonance circuits, that are present in practice, include induction coils with iron core which that induction is nonlinear. These resonance events are called ferroresonance.

Resonant Overvoltage Phenomena Caused by Transmission Line Faults
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1985Resonant overvoltages in EHV transformers can be initiated by transmission line faults. A series of field tests were performed on the 151 mile long Kammer-Marysville 765 kV line in which a sequence of single line to ground faults were applied to one outside phase at 4 different locations.

Temporary Detuning of Cablified Transmission Grids for Mitigation of Resonant Overvoltages
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2022Changes in the power system such as an increased use of cables in transmission systems lead to lower resonance frequencies, a possible consequence being an increased risk for resonant overvoltages. This paper presents a method for protecting the power system from resonant overvoltages caused by transformer energization or fault clearing in the vicinity

The Resonance Effect of Oscillating System Overvoltages on Transformer Windings
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1982This paper investigates theoretically and experimentally the conditions for and the effects of internal transformer winding resonances produced by oscillating exciting voltages. In particular, it demonstrates that both short-line faults and energizations can cause high voltage stresses between points in the windings.

The resonance overvoltages in EHV network
2009 10th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation, 2009Resonance is a phenomenon that occurs in electrical power systems of all voltage levels. The necessary and sufficient conditions are the framework of scenarios where resonance develops. The capacitors of electrical networks are linear elements. Nevertheless, the inductances may be both type: linear and nonlinear (with ferromagnetic core).

Multivariate Analysis of Transformer Resonant Overvoltages in Power Stations
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2011In this paper, cable-transformer resonant overvoltages are studied on the low-voltage (LV) side of a 410-MVA generator step-up (main) transformer, due to ground fault and energization. The transformer is placed in a network configuration often found in Norwegian hydropower stations. The overvoltages are calculated when systematically varying the length
