Tearing mode velocity braking due to resonant magnetic perturbations

Nuclear Fusion, 2012
Abstract The effect of resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) on the tearing mode (TM) velocity is studied in EXTRAP T2R. Experimental results show that the RMP produces TM braking until a new steady velocity or wall locking is reached.

Resonant Collision in Strong Magnetic Field. I. Perturbation Theory of Cyclotron Resonance

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1983
The potential scattering of charged particles in a strong magnetic field is formulated. The collision cross section is defined in such a way that the rate of scattering agrees with the field-free rate in the weak-field limit. A threshold law for the Landau-state excitation is derived.

Magnetic Field Structure Induced by Resonant Magnetic Perturbations in Tokamaks

2013
In this chapter we consider essential features of the structure of magnetic field in tokamaks in the presence of the externally applied resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs).

Resonant magnetic perturbation effects on pedestal structure and ELMs

Nuclear Fusion, 2012
Abstract The plasma transport processes by which externally applied resonant magnetic field perturbations (RMPs) mitigate or suppress edge-localized modes (ELMs) in low-collisionality tokamak H-mode plasmas are explored. Experimental data from DIII-D indicates the dominant RMP-induced transport occurs at the pedestal top where electron ...

The interaction of resonant magnetic perturbations with rotating plasmas

Physics of Fluids B: Plasma Physics, 1991
The penetration of a helical magnetic perturbation into a rotating tokamak plasma is investigated. In the linear regime, it is found that unless the frequency of the imposed perturbation matches closely to one of the natural mode frequencies, reconnection at the rational surface is suppressed by a large factor.

Penetration properties of resonant magnetic perturbation in EAST Tokamak

Physics of Plasmas, 2019
Our three-dimensional toroidal magnetohydrodynamics code [CLT (Ci-Liu-Ti, which means magnetohydrodynamics in Chinese)] is upgraded to CLTx in which the simulation domain extends to a scrape-off layer (SOL). Linear simulation results of resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) for edge-localized-mode mitigation discharge 52340 in EAST Tokamak agree well ...

Particle confinement control with resonant magnetic perturbations at TEXTOR

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2009
Abstract Two very contrary particle confinement stages were obtained at TEXTOR-DED by application of resonant magnetic perturbations. On the one hand a spontaneous build up of the total number of particles N tot with correlated increase in the particle confinement time τ p was observed and on the other hand a controlled ...

Influence of Resonant Magnetic Perturbations on transport barrier dynamics

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
Our work focuses on the effects of Resonant Magnetic Perturbations (RMPs) on ELM stabilization, since recent experiments [T. Evans et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 235003 (2004), Y. Liang et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 265004 (2007), K. Finken et al., Nucl. Fusion 47, 522–534 (2007)] demonstrated that the RMP control technique is very promising whereas much ...
