Certifying asymmetry in the configuration of three qubits

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
Symmetry restrictions limit the types of tasks that can be achieved with a given set of quantum states. Therefore, any breaking of these symmetries could potentially be exploited as a resource for quantum communication.

Hydrological asymmetry and water stress in Peru: An integrated assessment of resource distribution, anthropogenic pressure, and governance gaps across three drainage basins [version 1; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research
Background Peru presents a paradigmatic case of hydrological asymmetry, where national water abundance (56,887 m3/capita/year) masks acute regional scarcity.

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Ontology‐Aligned Structuring and Reuse of Multimodal Materials Data and Workflows Toward Automatic Reproduction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Reproduction of stacking fault energy calculations from literature with a semi‐automated large language model‐assisted extraction procedure: extraction of simulation protocol, atomistic structures, computational parameters, and reported results, ontology alignment, knowledge graph construction and, finally, recomputation forvalidation.

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

DigiChrom: A Domain Ontology for Semantic Representation of Trivalent Chromium Platings and Its Large Language Model‐Based Alignment With Multiple Mid‐Level Ontologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Digitalizing electroplating requires both domain knowledge and interoperability. This work introduces PlatOn, a domain ontology for trivalent chromium plating and coating characterization, and a hybrid pipeline that aligns it to a mid‐level reference ontology by combining eight similarity metrics with language model reasoning. Expert‐validated mappings

Ecosystem Size Mediates the Effects of Resource Flows on Species Diversity and Ecosystem Function at Different Scales

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Ecosystem size and spatial resource flows are key factors driving species diversity and ecosystem function. However, the question of whether and how these drivers interact has been largely overlooked.

Emergency funds, financial professionals, and the perceived debt–financial anxiety relationship

open access: yesCogent Economics & Finance
Drawing on the transactional model of stress and coping and information asymmetry theory, this study conceptualizes financial anxiety as a psychological response to the appraisal of perceived indebtedness. The analysis focuses on how two coping resources,
