A simple resource reservation protocol for the Internet

open access: closedProceedings Ninth International Conference on Computer Communications and Networks (Cat.No.00EX440), 2002
Resource reservation protocols allow communicating hosts to reserve resources such as bandwidth to offer a guaranteed service. Distributed applications like multimedia and teleconferencing are immediate applications of resource reservation. We propose a simple resource reservation protocol.

Processing overhead studies in resource reservation protocols

open access: closed, 2001
We study the signaling cost factors from two aspects: reservation retry process (or how to recover from reservation blocking), and one-pass signaling. Through simulation, we discover that the reservation retry mechanism used in RSVP is not only process intensive, but also the reservations are slow to converge.

Resource reservation with a market-based protocol: what prices to expect?

open access: closedComputer Communications, 2003
A reservation protocol and pricing model is proposed for the allocation of electronic services, such as computing and communication resources. Whereas centralised allocation mechanisms are frequently analysed, and therefore better understood, we focus on a decentralised, bilateral market, employing a new protocol to enable application agents to request

Resource Pricing under a Market-Based Reservation Protocol

open access: closed, 2002
A reservation protocol and pricing model is proposed for the allocation of electronic services, such as computing and communication resources. Whereas centralised allocation mechanisms are frequently analysed and better understood we focus on a decentralised, bilateral market employing a new protocol to enable application agents to request price quotes

Integrating routing and resource reservation mechanisms in real-time multicast protocols

open access: closedProceedings of 16th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems, 2002
Multimedia applications must incorporate real-time task processing over networks. In most cases, there are many receivers for each data stream. Thus, a multicast resource reservation protocol for ensuring timing constraints over the network is required.
