Comparison of long-term health-related quality of life and symptoms between COVID-19 patients and test-negative controls during the Omicron-predominant period in Japan

open access: yesArchives of Public Health

Quantification and determinants of the amount of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) shed using real time PCR data from a longitudinal household study [version 2; referees: 2 approved, 2 approved with reservations]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research, 2017
Background A better understanding of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) epidemiology requires realistic estimates of RSV shedding patterns, quantities shed, and identification of the related underlying factors.

Spinal Cord Infarction Versus Idiopathic Transverse Myelitis: Clinical, Radiological, and Functional Insights From a Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is a rare but devastating myelopathy, characterized by a high disability rate and an unfavorable prognosis. It has often been underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed as idiopathic transverse myelitis (ITM). This study aimed to describe the clinical features, radiological biomarkers, treatments, and functional ...

Characteristics of exhaled particle production in healthy volunteers: possible implications for infectious disease transmission [v1; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/xa]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2013
The size and concentration of exhaled particles may influence respiratory infection transmission risk. We assessed variation in exhaled particle production between individuals, factors associated with high production and stability over time.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Polysaccharides from Marine Bacteria and Their Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Activity

open access: yesMicrobiology Research
This study investigated the anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity of Polysaccharides (PSs) from three species of marine bacteria (Alteromonas nigrifaciens KMM 156, Cobetia amphilecti KMM 3890, and Idiomarina abyssalis KMM 227T).
