A rare complication of recurrent cerebrovascular infarct: Bilateral vocal cord paralysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Bilateral vocal cord paralysis (BVCP) is usually the result of an iatrogenic injury especially secondary to thyroid and parathyroid surgery. However, BVCP that cause airway obstruction due to serebral cortical stroke very rarely has been reported.

3D‐Printed Multidimensional Bionic Mg‐MC/PLGA Composite for Tailored Repair of Segmental Long Bone Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops 3D‐printed Mg‐MC/PLGA scaffolds with varying Mg concentrations (0–20%). The 5% Mg scaffold shows optimal cytocompatibility, osteogenic activity in vitro, and significantly enhances bone regeneration in rabbits, improving bone volume and mechanical strength.

VV-ECMO in Respiratory Insufficiency

open access: yes, 2023
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has advanced significantly in the last few decades. Although not FDA-approved in the United States for respiratory insufficiency, it is widely used to support cardiac and pulmonary function via Venoarterial (VA) and Venovenous (VV) ECMO, respectively.

Suppressing t(4;11) Acute Leukemia by Lipopolymer Nanoparticle Delivery of siRNA Targeting KMT2A::AFF1 with Enhanced Extrahepatic Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new lipopolymer nanoparticle (LPNP) system that efficiently delivers siRNA to leukemia cells. The LPNPs silence the leukemia fusion gene KMT2A::AFF1, induce apoptosis, and decrease leukemia burden in mice. These results demonstrate the potential of LPNPs as a targeted siRNA therapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Microscopically Adaptable Bioink Guide Cell Compartmentalization toward Morphogenesis of a Functional Vasculature‐Like System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Contractile vasculatures are fabricated through a one‐step bioprinting strategy. The adaptable microenvironment provided by ECM‐mimicking bioink triggers cell sorting and compartmentalization of endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells toward a histological configuration by focal adhesion kinase‐mediated upregulation of cell adhesion and ...
