A Lung‐Immune Dual‐Humanized Mouse Using Cryopreserved Tissue Enables Infection and Immune Profiling of Human Common Cold Coronaviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cryopreserved lung‐humanized mice overcome the dependency to fresh tissues and permit head‐to‐head profiling of all four human common cold coronaviruses versus SARS‐CoV‐2 infection; the model validates Paxlovid efficacy against HKU1 and, when coupled with human immune‐system engraftment, enables interrogation of lung‐resident human immunity and HKU1 ...

Induction of Potent Neutralizing Antibody Responses by a Designed Protein Nanoparticle Vaccine for Respiratory Syncytial Virus

open access: yesCell, 2019
Summary Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a worldwide public health concern for which no vaccine is available. Elucidation of the prefusion structure of the RSV F glycoprotein and its identification as the main target of neutralizing antibodies have ...

Identification and Characterization of an In Silico Designed Membrane‐Active Peptide with Antiviral Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An evolutionary molecular dynamics platform is used to design P1.6, a membrane‐active peptide that senses lipid packing defects in viral envelopes. P1.6 adopts a stabilized α‐helical structure upon membrane contact, disrupts virus‐like liposomes, and damages HIV‐1 particles.

A 2-year-old girl with chronic crackles after respiratory syncytial virus infection: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2018
Background Respiratory syncytial virus is the most common cause of lower respiratory tract infections in infants and young children. While the majority of infants display only mild upper respiratory tract infection or occasionally otitis media, around ...

Altered expression of cytokines in mice infected intranasally with two syncytial variants of Herpes simplex virus type 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Immune evasion strategies are important for the onset and the maintenance of viral infections. Many viruses have evolved mechanisms to counteract or suppress the host immune response.

Gut Microbiota‐Non‐Coding RNA Axis in Immune Modulation and Disease: From Mechanisms to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Immune homeostasis is indispensable for preserving organismal integrity, orchestrated through complex molecular networks encompassing immune cell dynamics, microbial cues, and epigenetic regulation. Among these, the gut microbiota‐non‐coding RNA (ncRNA) axis has recently garnered substantial attention as a multifaceted modulator of host ...

Resurgence of Respiratory Virus after Relaxation of COVID-19 Containment Measures: A Real-World Data Study from a Regional Hospital of Italy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, 2022
The SARS-CoV-2 virus spread in the Northern Hemisphere during the 2019/2020 influenza seasons and it persisted in the 2021/2022 season. A cocirculation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses was expected in Italy during the winter seasons.
