Modeling epidemics caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)

Mathematical Biosciences, 2001
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause of acute lower respiratory tract infection in children. In this paper we use models of RSV transmission to interpret the pattern of seasonal epidemics of RSV disease observed in different countries, and to estimate epidemic and eradication thresholds for RSV infection.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Diseases

VacciTUTOR, 2022
The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is an RNA virus that causes annual ARI outbreaks during winter with mild URTI in the general population, but with severe LRTI particularly among young children (bronchiolitis), patients with underlying diseases and people >65 years of age.

New strategies for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)

Early Human Development, 2022
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the main cause of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) in newborns in the first two years of life. RSV disease has a traditional seasonal trend, with an onset and offset, duration and peak. Prematurity, male gender, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), critical congenital cardiovascular disorders (CCHD ...

Separation and concentration of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) antigens

Journal of Immunological Methods, 1974
Abstract Respiratory syncytial virus has been concentrated by precipitation with polyethlene glycol-6000 and partially separated from cellular debris by sucrose-gradient centrifugation. Treatment of the concentrated virus with 0.5% sodium deoxycholate results in a resolution of this material into two fractions with different (1.27 and 1.19 g/cm 3 ...

Development of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines for infants

Journal of Infection, 2017
2017 will mark the 60th anniversary since the first isolation of RSV in children. In spite of concerted efforts over all these years, the goal of developing an effective vaccine against paediatric RSV disease has remained elusive. One of the main hurdles standing in the way of an effective vaccine is the fact that the age incidence of severe disease ...

[The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in Adults].

Pneumologie (Stuttgart, Germany), 2020
RSV induces an acute viral disease with involvement of the respiratory tract. It can be notably life-threatening for infants but also for older adults. New RSV-subtypes are constantly evolving globally. The knowledge about epidemiology, hygiene measures, diagnostics and clinical feature is essential not only for the paediatrician.

T-Cells in Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Infection

1989
T-cells are an important arm of our anti-viral defense, and generally are required to clear virus once a virulent infection has occurred. In certain virus infections T-cells can cause immunopathology. For development of more rational vaccines it becomes important to acquire knowledge about the role of T-cell subpopulations in infection, their viral ...
