[A bronchiolitis epidemic caused by respiratory syncytial viruses].

Acta medica Iugoslavica, 1990
In the typical period of the year (autumn-winter 1986-1987) an outbreak of bronchiolitis in infants caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) occurred. The acute course of the illness, a severe clinical picture, and a very fast spread of infection called for the very rapid techniques for detecting the etiological agent.

Freeze-drying of respiratory syncytial viruses for transportation and storage

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1987
The stabilities of eight strains of respiratory syncytial virus were compared after the strains were freeze-dried in the presence and absence of the stabilizer SPGA, which contains 218 mM sucrose, 7.1 mM dipotassium hydrogen phosphate, 3.76 mM potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 4.9 mM sodium glutamate, and 1% (wt/vol) bovine albumin.

Vapors, Viruses, and Views

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1986
The recent population explosion in anti-infectives seems to be almost entirely from antibacterial agents. Among the more meager nursery of antiviral agents is one that has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

To determine the epidemiologic patterns of subgroups A and B and genotypes of respiratory syncytial viruses (RSV) during two uncontinuously epidemic years from 1990 to 1991 and 1997 to 1998 in Beijing.Nasopharyngeal secretion (NPS) samples of RSV positive or BSV isolates tested by indirect immunofluorescent (IIF) assay were classified into subgroups A ...

Expression of β-galactosidase by recombinant respiratory syncytial viruses for microneutralization assay

Journal of Virological Methods, 2002
The beta-galactosidase gene (lacZ) was inserted into a recombinant respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) A2 strain of subgroup A RSV (designated as A-lacZ) and a chimeric RSV that had the G and F surface glycoproteins of A2 replaced by those of the subgroup B RSV 9320 strain (designated as B-lacZ).

Polylactosaminoglycan modification of the respiratory syncytial virus small hydrophobic (SH) protein: A conserved feature among human and bovine respiratory syncytial viruses

Virology, 1992
We investigated the nature of the oligosaccharide modification of the glycosylated forms of the small hydrophobic integral membrane protein, SH (previously designated 1A), of respiratory syncytial (RS) virus. Analysis of SH protein expressed in cells infected with RS virus or with a recombinant vaccinia virus revealed two glycosylated SH protein ...

Airway microbiome, host immune response and recurrent wheezing in infants with severe respiratory syncytial virus bronchiolitis

Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, 2019
Early interactions between respiratory viruses and microbiota might modulate host immune responses and subsequently contribute to later development of recurrent wheezing and asthma in childhood.

The Unusual Attachment Glycoprotein of the Respiratory Syncytial Viruses

1991
Human respiratory syncytial (RS) virus, a pneumovirus in the paramyxovirus family, differs from other members of this family in several ways: (1) it has additional genes, which include two independent genes for nonstructural proteins and a gene for a second matrixlike protein, (2) the organization of the genome differs from that of other ...

Controversy around airborne versus droplet transmission of respiratory viruses: implication for infection prevention.

Current Opinion in Infectious Diseases, 2019
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Health agencies recommend transmission-based precautions, including contact, droplet and airborne precautions, to mitigate transmission of respiratory viruses in healthcare settings.

Respiratory syncytial virus and other respiratory viruses in the setting of bone marrow transplantation

Current Opinion in Oncology, 2009
Several epidemiologic studies have enhanced our understanding of the impact of respiratory viruses on bone marrow transplant recipients.Respiratory viral infections occur frequently following stem cell transplantation but present atypically. Many patients have asymptomatic infections. There is a growing armamentarium of antiviral agents currently under
