The Response Spectrum of a Nonlinear Oscillator

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1992
The response of a nonlinear oscillator excited by white noise is considered. A truncated Hermite polynomial series is used as an approximation to the probability density function. While this approach has been used before by many authors to obtain statistics such as the time-dependent mean or mean-square values, it has not been noted before that the ...

Modal Response Spectrum Analysis

2015
In this example, the modal response spectrum (MRS) method of analysis is used to analyze a sixstory moment resisting frame. The analysis is performed in accordance with Section 12.9 of ASCE 7. The results from the MRS analysis are compared to the results obtained from an equivalent lateral force (ELF) analysis of the same frame.

Inelastic response spectrum: Early history

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2008
AbstractDetailing the time period from, roughly, 1950 through 1980, this Historical Note documents the development of the initial concept of the inelastic response spectrum and how it evolved to become the basis for rational procedures for earthquake‐resistant design, which are used even today. An inverse shock response spectrum

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2011
Abstract The shock response spectrum (SRS) is a tool commonly used by application engineers that characterizes the severity of a transient acceleration. Due to the definition of the SRS, neither an analytical nor a unique inverse exists for an arbitrary function.

Developing an Elastic Response Spectrum

2015
This chapter presents an example in which an elastic response spectrum is generated for a site in Savannah, Georgia. An elastic spectrum is used directly in the modal response spectrum analysis approach and as a basis for ground motion scaling in response history analysis. The basic form of the design response spectrum is shown in Fig.

Response Spectrum of Wind Force

2008
This paper presents the classical elastic response spectra of a single-degree-of-freedom system (SDOF) which is obtained from the measured data of the force caused by a wind named Bora. All the data of the wind force are obtained by measurements on a SDOF oscillator. The spectra are constructed for different intensities of the dynamic wind force. A non-
