Purification of serine proteases from mango (Mangifera indica cv. Chokanan) peel using expanded bed adsorption: optimisation using response surface methodology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Proteolytic enzymes or proteases are a class of proteins ubiquitously found in all organisms; they act as catalysts and perform diverse vital functions. In plants, proteases of plant origin play a vital function from the mobilisation of storage proteins ...

Statistical Optimization of Electrocoagulation on Membrane Fouling During Electrodialysis Process of Run‐Off Water Loaded With Road De‐Icing Salts

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, EarlyView.
This study optimized electrocoagulation as a pretreatment for electrodialysis of road runoff water affected by de‐icing salts. The optimized pretreatment effectively reduced suspended solids and turbidity, minimizing membrane fouling. Improved pretreatment enhanced ion‐exchange membrane performance and electrodialysis efficiency.

Biphasic Extraction of Selected Heavy Metals From Corn With the Aid of Kosmotropic Salts

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 7, Issue 2, December 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the use of aqueous two‐phase extraction (ATPE) with kosmotropic salts for the extraction of toxic heavy metals from maize. Heavy metals, such as cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr) and iron (Fe), are harmful to human health because they accumulate in the food chain and may cause kidney damage, cancer and nervous system problems.

Growth, Carcass Quality and Gut Microbiota Responses to Extruded Rapeseed Meal With Protease in Broiler Chickens

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
The 5%–7.5% extruded rapeseed meal improved broiler growth, nutrient digestibility, carcass traits, intestinal morphology and gut microbial balance. ABSTRACT Background Soybean meal (SBM) is a major protein source in broiler diets, but its cost and dependence on a limited number of protein sources have increased interest in alternative feed ingredients.

Process Optimization of Solution Blow Spinning for Poly (N‐Isopropylacrylamide) Fibers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 40, October 20, 2026.
Solution blow spinning has emerged as a safe and scalable technique for fabricating thermoresponsive PNIPAM fibers. The influence of key parameters on jet stability and fiber uniformity is determined through both rheological analysis and statistical process optimization. A Box–Behnken design reveals an optimized window for producing PNIPAM fibers below

Phosphorylation of Milkweed Fibers With a Phosphate Ester: Effect on Fiber Properties and Optimization of Reaction Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 40, October 20, 2026.
The phosphorylation of milkweed fibers using the phosphate ester/urea system was optimized. The impact of reaction temperature, duration, and phosphate ester ratio on the efficiency of phosphorylation was investigated using the design of experiments approach.

Cooling Holes in Polymer Spur Gears: A Critical Analysis of Heat Dissipation Benefits and Mesh Stiffness Penalties

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 38, October 10, 2026.
Cooling holes provide a simple passive cooling strategy for polymer spur gears, reducing maximum operating temperature by up to 9.39% while introducing a measurable gear mesh stiffness penalty. A validated response‐surface model reveals how hole size and location govern this thermal–mechanical trade‐off, enabling design optimization for thermally and ...

RSM‐Optimised Lactococcus lactis and Schizochytrium limacinum Combination Improves Immunity and Streptococcus agalactiae Resistance in GIFT Tilapia

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This study optimised the dietary supplementation of Lactococcus lactis and Schizochytrium limacinum in genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT, Oreochromis niloticus) to improve immunity and resistance to Streptococcus agalactiae infection. Single‑factor experiments and central composite design combined with response surface methodology (CCD‑

Towards Season‐Specific Feeds: Maximising Protein Digestibility and Reducing Waste in Hybrid Abalone (Haliotis rubra × Haliotis laevigata) Aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Australian abalone grow‐out aquaculture relies on formulated feeds to provide for the nutritional requirements of the animal. At the same time, grow‐out systems are subject to seasonal water temperature fluctuations. As such, the economic and environmental performance of cultured abalone is inherently tied to the utilisation efficiency of ...
