Resting energy expenditure of children attending a rehabilitation programme following head injury

open access: yes, 2001
Statement of purpose: Increased resting energy expenditure following head injury is well documented, but whether this increase extends into rehabilitation and whether this is affected by changes in body composition have not been studied.

Keeping Pace or Falling Behind? The Depth of Latin American Trade Agreements

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article examines whether Latin American countries are keeping pace with global trends in trade agreement depth or falling behind. Using 681 agreements (1970–2019), we develop the Depth Index of Trade Agreements (DITA) to weight provisions endogenously through factor analysis based on co‐occurrence patterns.

Pre‐Season Total Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake of Professional Male Soccer Players: A Doubly Labelled Water Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science
Limited data exist describing how professional footballers meet their energy requirements during pre‐season, a phase characterised by increased training volume and a progressive shift from general conditioning to football‐specific preparation. This study

Video and Text‐Based Supplemental Health Information and Consumer Willingness to Pay for Nutrient‐Enhanced Eggs

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nutritional information is very important in the food choices of consumers. However, when they are too scientific or technical, they have the potential to confuse consumers, resulting in information asymmetry and dissuading them from making beneficial choices.

A Unifying Approach to Self‐Organizing Systems Interacting via Conservation Laws

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
The article develops a unified way to model and analyze self‐organizing systems whose interactions are constrained by conservation laws. It represents physical/biological/engineered networks as graphs and builds projection operators (from incidence/cycle structure) that enforce those constraints and decompose network variables into constrained versus ...

A Multimodal Intelligent System for Human Digital Twin Simulation with Continuous Kinematic Data Tracking, Biometric Prognosis, and Cognitive State Feedback in Industrial Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This article implements a unified human digital twin framework that integrates cutting edge actuation, sensing, simulation, and bidirectional feedback capability. The approach includes integrating multimodal sensing, AI, and biomechanical simulation into one compact system.

Materials Representation Learning Based on a Material–Motif Network and Heterogeneous Graphs

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Structure motifs in materials are used to construct a bipartite material–motif network that links each material to its constituent motifs and establishes connectivity among materials sharing common motifs. Network analysis reveals material clusters associated with different functional applications and supports motif‐guided screening of materials.

Bridging glucose metabolism and intrinsic functional organization of the human cortex

open access: yesCommunications Biology
The human brain requires a continuous supply of energy to function effectively. Here, we investigated how the low-dimensional organization of intrinsic functional connectivity patterns based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging relates ...

Cteno‐Bot: An Untethered Metachronally Swimming Robot With Magnetoactive Propulsors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We present Cteno‐bot, an untethered ctenophore‐inspired robot which swims using metachronally coordinated appendages. A single mechanism controls up to 216 magnetoactive propulsors via a dynamically varying magnetic field. We show that the swimming speed of the robot can be increased without a corresponding increase in power requirement, simply by ...

Time‐Delayed Spiking Reservoir Computing Enables Efficient Time Series Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study proposes time‐delayed spiking reservoir computing (TDSRC) for efficient time series prediction. By concatenating time‐lagged states, TDSRC constructs an expanded readout feature vector without altering internal reservoir dynamics. This approach enables highly accurate forecasting with significantly fewer neurons, providing a resource ...
