Constrained Restless Bandits for Dynamic Scheduling in Cyber-Physical Systems

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper develops a sequential decision-making framework called constrained restless multi-armed bandits (CRMABs) to model problems of resource allocation under uncertainty and dynamic availability constraints.

The Bandit Whisperer: Communication Learning for Restless Bandits

open access: yesProceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence
Applying Reinforcement Learning (RL) to Restless Multi-Arm Bandits (RMABs) offers a promising avenue for addressing allocation problems with resource constraints and temporal dynamics. However, classic RMAB models largely overlook the challenges of (systematic) data errors - a common occurrence in real-world scenarios due to factors like varying data ...

Monotone Policies and Indexability for Bidirectional Restless Bandits [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Probability, 2013
Motivated by a wide range of applications, we consider a development of Whittle's restless bandit model in which project activation requires a state-dependent amount of a key resource, which is assumed to be available at a constant rate. As many projects may be activated at each decision epoch as resource availability allows.

‘I'm Dead!’: Action, Homicide and Denied Catharsis in Early Modern Spanish Drama

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract In early modern Spanish drama, the expression ‘¡Muerto soy!’ (‘I'm dead!’) is commonly used to indicate a literal death or to figuratively express a character's extreme fear or passion. Recent studies, even one collection published under the title of ‘¡Muerto soy!’, have paid scant attention to the phrase in context, a serious omission when ...

Along the Silenced Footsteps of Latin American Pastoralists: From Mexico to Argentina, a Journey Through Pastoral Systems in Latin America

open access: yesThe Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Volume 31, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Pastoralism worldwide faces a complex landscape of increased pressures and exclusion. Beyond ecological and economic challenges, pastoralists suffer eroding cultural identity, limited generational renewal, and political marginalization. Yet pastoral livelihoods are increasingly recognized as stewards of sustainable futures and amongst the best

Lives opposed: perceptivity and tacticality in conflict and crime

open access: yesSocial Anthropology, Volume 26, Issue 4, Page 487-501, November 2018., 2018
This article looks at the way people tactically adjust to contexts of insecurity and danger. Building on fieldwork with disenfranchised urban poor in West Africa and marginal West African migrants in Europe, it clarifies how perspectives and practices are attuned to precarious situations and life conditions.

Restless-UCB, an Efficient and Low-complexity Algorithm for Online Restless Bandits

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
We study the online restless bandit problem, where the state of each arm evolves according to a Markov chain, and the reward of pulling an arm depends on both the pulled arm and the current state of the corresponding Markov chain. In this paper, we propose Restless-UCB, a learning policy that follows the explore-then-commit framework.

Similarity and Consistency in Algorithm‐Guided Exploration

open access: yesJournal of Behavioral Decision Making, Volume 38, Issue 5, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Algorithmic advice has the potential to significantly improve human decision‐making, especially in dynamic and complex tasks that require a balance between exploration and exploitation. This study examines conditions under which individuals are willing to accept advice from algorithms in such scenarios, focusing on the interaction between ...

Energy‐Efficient Relay Selection Scheme for Physical Layer Security in Cognitive Radio Networks

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Security is a critical issue in cognitive radio (CR) relay networks. Most previous work concentrates on maximizing secrecy capacity (SC) as a criterion to guarantee the security requirements in CR relay networks. However, under the requirement of “green” radio communication, the energy consumption is largely ignored.

Design of Centralized Scheduling Policies for Minimizing Average Age of Incorrect Information in Multi-Hop Wireless Networks With Interference

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper designs and evaluates novel centralized sampling and scheduling policies for minimizing the average age of incorrect information (AoII) for a multi-hop network with interference constraints.
