Roughly 150 total laryngectomies are performed throughout the Netherlands each year. In our Department of Otolaryngology at the Free University Hospital, an average of 20 total laryngectomies are performed a year. These are largely when radiation treatment has failed or for larger (T3, T4) tumors.
