Roll response of semisubmersibles with non-linear restoring moment characteristics
Applied Ocean Research, 1989This paper investigates the dynamics of a semisubmersible model with an inflectional restoring moment. Insight into the system's behaviour is given by an approximate analytical solution and time domain numerical solutions. Poincare mapping techniques are used which show regions of chaotic motions in response to harmonic excitation.

Redundancy resolution for underwater vehicle-manipulator systems with minimizing restoring moments
2007 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2007In this paper, redundancy resolution of underwater vehicle-manipulator system(UVMS) is addressed. In general, UVMS has redundant degrees of freedom(DOFs) as many as DOFs of manipulator and these redundant DOFs can be used to optimize the configuration of UVMS while satisfying given tasks.

Atmospheric turbulence affects imaging systems by virtue of wave propagation through a medium with a nonuniform index of refraction. It can lead to blurring in images acquired from a long distance away. In this letter, it is observed that blurring increases the second-order central moment (SOCM) of images, and we introduce a new parametric blur ...

In this paper, coordinated motion control of underwater vehicle-manipulator system (UVMS) is addressed. In order for UVMS to carry out manipulation tasks alone, motion planning with consideration of redundancy and tracking control under disturbances are required. We propose redundancy resolution with optimization of restoring moments as motion planning

Blotch removal for old movie restoration using legendre moment and particle swarm optimization
2011 International Conference on Communications and Signal Processing, 2011A blotch is one among several artifacts that can degrade old movies which had been stored in films. Blotches are seen as randomly occuring black or white spots which are disturbing to the viewer. A novel approach to blotch removal for old movie restoration is presented in this paper.

Active Use of Restoring Moments for Motion Control of an Underwater Vehicle-Manipulator System
IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 2014This paper proposes a framework for actively using the restoring moments of an underwater vehicle-manipulator system (UVMS) considering both kinematic and control aspects. The kinematic aspect concerns redundancy resolution of the UVMS where the redundant degrees of freedom are used to selectively optimize the restoring moments. For this, a performance

Abstract For autonomous manipulation in water, an underwater vehicle-manipulator system (UVMS) should be able to generate trajectori9es for the vehicle and manipulators and track the planned trajectories accurately. In this paper, for trajectory generation, we suggest a performance index for redundancy resolution.

Identification of the nonlinear roll damping and restoring moment of a FPSO using Hilbert transform
Ocean Engineering, 2015Roll motion is a major concern of ship and offshore operators because it has a direct impact on the boarding comfort of crews, downtime of the process plant and structural integrity of the hull and appurtenance system. Nevertheless, the nonlinear effects involved in the roll motion of ship and offshore structures are not only incompletely understood ...

Abstract Image moments such as zernike, tchebichef and geometric moments have been widely used in image processing applications. They have useful properties to detect edges. In this paper, we present how one of the moment families, in particular geometric moments (GM) can be utilized in estimating the sigma and size of the Gaussian point spread ...
