Cocompletion of restriction categories [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Restriction categories were introduced as a way of generalising the notion of partial map categories. In this paper, we define cocomplete restriction category, and give the free cocompletion of a small restriction category as a suitably defined category of restriction presheaves. We also consider the case where our restriction category is locally small.

Invariant theory for the commuting scheme of symplectic Lie algebras [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We prove the Chevalley restriction theorem for the commuting scheme of symplectic Lie algebras. The key step is the construction of the inverse map of the Chevalley restriction map called the spectral data map. Along the way, we establish a certain multiplicative property of the Pfaffian which is of independent interest.

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

Presheaves over a join restriction category [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Just as the presheaf category is the free cocompletion of any small category, there is an analogous notion of free cocompletion for any small restriction category. In this paper, we extend the work on restriction presheaves to presheaves over join restriction categories, and show that the join restriction category of join restriction presheaves is ...

Restriction maps in equivariant KK-theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of K-Theory, 2011
AbstractWe extend McClure's results regarding restriction maps in equivariant K-theory to bivariant K-theory:Let G be a compact Lie group and A and B be G-C*-algebras. Suppose that KKHn(A, B) is a finitely generated R(G)-module for every H ≤ G closed and n ∈ ℤ. Then, if KKF*(A, B) = 0 for all F ≤ Gfinite cyclic, then KKG*(A, B) = 0.

The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

A first generation BAC-based physical map of the Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BackgroundThe Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) is an important marine foodfish species in Southeast Asia and Australia. Genetic improvement of this species has been achieved to some extent through selective breeding programs since 1990s.

Is the American Zebu really Bos indicus?

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 1999
The American continent was colonized in the 16th century by Europeans who first introduced cattle of Bos taurus origin. Accounts register introduction of Bos indicus cattle into South America in the 19th and continuing through the 20th century, and most ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.
