Detecting independence of random vectors: generalized distance covariance and Gaussian covariance
Distance covariance is a quantity to measure the dependence of two random vectors. We show that the original concept introduced and developed by Sz\'{e}kely, Rizzo and Bakirov can be embedded into a more general framework based on symmetric L\'{e}vy ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Relative Entropy of Entanglement and Restricted Measurements [PDF]
We introduce variants of relative entropy of entanglement based on the optimal distinguishability from unentangled states by means of restricted measurements. In this way, we are able to prove that the standard regularized entropy of entanglement is strictly positive for all multipartite entangled states. In particular, this implies that the asymptotic

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Kaliningrad Region in the Framework of EU Sanction Policy [PDF]
Due to its geographical position, the Kaliningrad region always has had a special place in the context of relations between Russia and the EU. For this reason, the introduction of large-scale restrictive measures by the EU against Russia led to a ...

Objective dysphonia quantification in vocal fold paralysis: comparing nonlinear with classical measures [PDF]
Clinical acoustic voice recording analysis is usually performed using classical perturbation measures including jitter, shimmer and noise-to-harmonic ratios.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A welfare economics foundation for health inequality measurement [PDF]
The empirical literature on the measurement of health inequalities is vast and rapidly expanding. To date, however, no foundation in welfare economics exists for the proposed measures of health inequality.

RESTRICTIONS ON INFORMATION TRANSFER IN QUANTUM MEASUREMENTS [PDF]
Information-theoretical restrictions on the information transfer in quantum measurements are studied for practical systems. For the measurement of quantum system S by information system O such restrictions are described by a formalism of inference maps in Hilbert space, the resulting O restricted states ξO calculated from the agreement with ...
