Review of Gastrointestinal Capsule Robots: Materials, Actuation, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review examines gastrointestinal capsule robots through a systems engineering lens, covering shell materials, actuation and localization strategies, diagnostic modalities, therapeutic interventions, and commercialization status. By mapping the complete technological chain from fabrication to clinical deployment, this work identifies critical gaps ...

Retained Intraabdominal Gossypiboma, Five Years after Bilateral Orchiopexy

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, 2010
Introduction. Gossypiboma or textiloma is used to describe a retained surgical swab in the body after an operation. Intraabdominal surgical sponge is an uncommon surgical error.

Genome‐Wide and Multi‐Omics Analysis Identified DNA‐Interacting Circular RNA circFOXK2 as MLL1 Regulator for Histone H3K4 Methylation in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Circular RNA circFOXK2 is frequently upregulated in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma to promote tumor heterogeneity, growth, and metastasis. Through circRNA‐DNA interaction at different genomic locations, circFOXK2 removes the PPIE inhibitory effects on MLL1 for gene‐activating H3K4 methylation of the oncogenes.

Metallic staples line mimicking a retained surgical sponge

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2010
The inadvertent loss of surgical sponges remains a dreadful hazard of surgery. We report the case of a patient with a medical history of myotonic dystrophy type 1 who had received a right upper lobectomy for the treatment of a stage IIA (pT1N1M0) well differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma.

A Decoy‐Receptor‐Armed Biomimetic Nanotherapeutic With Inherent Tropism for Conserved Pathogenic Macrophages for Treating Osteoarthritis and Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic doppelgänger nanosystem neutralizes extracellular inflammatory cytokines and silences intracellular pyroptosis, reprogramming pathogenic macrophages to attenuate both joint and spine degeneration. ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) and intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) are debilitating musculoskeletal disorders driven by shared ...

Self‐Sustaining Hybrid Passive Cooler Enabling Highly Effective Thermal Management for Outdoor Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An innovative hybrid passive cooler integrates a porous radiative coating and an atmospheric moisture‐harvesting hydrogel within a melamine sponge skeleton, synergizing radiative cooling, sensible‐heat absorption, and latent‐heat evaporation. It maintains an average 8.3°C sub‐ambient cooling under sunlight and a maximum ∼42.4°C drop under 2000 W·m−2 ...

Drought Stress Mediated Changes in Food Crops: Mechanisms and Remediation Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a multi‐scale framework for flavonoid‐mediated drought tolerance in staple food crops, integrating ROS redox regulation, antioxidant defense, rhizosphere microbial interactions, and sustainable agronomic practices. This interdisciplinary model provides core insights to develop climate‐resilient cropping systems and enhance global ...

Gossypiboma larynx: a rare cause of post-tracheostomy stridor—case report and review of literature

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports
Background Gossypiboma, a retained surgical sponge with a foreign body reaction, is an unusual but serious complication seen in open abdominal surgeries. It is exceptionally rare following head and neck surgeries.
