Extraskeletal osteosarcoma associated with retained surgical sponge in a dog

open access: yes, 2020
. Retained surgical sponges are usually discovered in the abdominal cavity, sometimes years after the surgical procedure, and the typical reaction is formation of a foreign-body granuloma, often called gossypiboma or textiloma.

A Critical Review on the Evolution of Chitosan‐Based Injectable Hydrogels in Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The graphical illustration depicts hydrogel formulation using chitosan and biocompatible cross‐linkers, major advantages, and incorporation of cells, osteoinductive factors, and therapeutic drugs. Following injection, pH‐responsive gelation enables controlled drug release, promotes cell recruitment and osteogenic differentiation, enhances extracellular

Gossypiboma with enterocutaneous fistula after cesarean section: a case report and review of the literature

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports
Introduction Although precautions taken for surgical procedures are strict and effective in most operative theaters, the incidence of retained foreign bodies following surgery has a reported rate of 0.01–0.001%, of which gossypibomas make up 80% of cases.

Gossypiboma in the urinary bladder: Time to make new surgical guidelines

open access: yesMedical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil University, 2014
The actual incidence of gossypiboma is difficult to determine possibly due to reluctance to report occurrence arising from fear of legal repercussion, but retained surgical sponge is reported to occur one in every 3000-5000 abdominal operations and is ...

Gossypiboma with perforation of the umbilicus mimicking a complicated urachal cyst: a case report

open access: yesBMC Surgery, 2020
Background A retained surgical sponge, also known as a gossypiboma, is a rare cause of serious postoperative complications. Diverse retained surgical materials including instruments such as clamps and sutures have been reported, but surgical sponges are ...

Hierarchical Multi‐Material Architectures With Gradient Design for Dynamic‐Range Flexible Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hierarchical multi‐material TPMS lattices are engineered as flexible tactile sensors by combining soft and stiff elastomeric layers with a conformal conductive coating. The bilayer architecture delivers sensitivity at low pressures while maintaining a broad detectable range under large loads, enabling reliable pressure and vibration monitoring for ...

A new pitfall on abdominal PET/CT: a retained surgical sponge

open access: yes, 2004
Positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) and multidetector CT findings of an abdominal retained surgical sponge (RSS) are presented. A PET/CT study performed for evaluation of a suspected abdominal tumor demonstrated the inconclusive ...

A State‐Adaptive Koopman Control Framework for Real‐Time Deformable Tool Manipulation in Robotic Environmental Swabbing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a state‐adaptive Koopman linear quadratic regulator framework for real‐time manipulation of a deformable swab tool in robotic environmental sampling. By combining Koopman linearization, tactile sensing, and centroid‐based force regulation, the system maintains stable contact forces and high coverage across flat and inclined surfaces.
