RETINAL ARTERY OCCLUSIONS

Ophthalmology Clinics of North America, 1998
In 1859, von Graefe 90 described an embolic central retinal artery obstruction in a patient with endocarditis and multiple systemic emboli. Knapp, 54 however, mentions that several years earlier Virchow had suggested that an embolus might be seen directly in a retinal artery with the ophthalmoscope.

Retinal Artery Occlusion

2012
Retinal artery occlusions (RAO) are characterized by the sudden obstruction of the arterial blood flow in the retinal circulation with consequent ischemic damage to the retina.

Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde, 2019
Retinal artery occlusions are acute vascular diseases. Very often they are caused by an embolisation. Rarely a thrombosis is caused by an arteriitis. In the acute phase diagnosis in most of the cases can be made by ophthalmoscopy due to the whitish retinal edema and in central retinal artery occlusion the cherry red spot.

Retinal Artery Occlusion

2016
Acute retinal arterial obstruction presents as a sudden, painless monocular loss of vision and/or visual field defect due to involvement of either the central retinal artery, central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), or an arterial branch, branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) (von Graefes 1859).

Traumatic Central Retinal Artery Occlusion

Ophthalmologica, 1990
A healthy 6-year-old boy with a clinical picture of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) of his left eye is presented here. The underlying cause was a trauma to the boy's left cheek some 6 months earlier. Possible pathophysiological mechanisms are discussed.

Retinal Artery Occlusion

2019
Retinal artery occlusion represents a retinal vascular disorder usually associated with persistent severe vision loss. Ischemia initially causes swelling of the inner retinal layers, followed by atrophy of the inner retinal layers over the following weeks.

Retinal artery occlusions in children

Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis, 2013
The purpose of this study is to present a case of RAO in a 13 year old girl with a preceding history of hyperextension of the neck at her hairdressers for a long duration and use of her mobile phone handset resting it against the side of her neck presumably exerting some pressure on carotids during the same time. Materials and methods of this study was

Treatment of Retinal Arterial Occlusion

Ophthalmologica, 1980
The various possibilities of treating arterial retinal occlusions are reviewed. Although thrombolysis is regarded today as the most dependable therapeutic method it has the most contraindications and carries the highest risk. There are less contraindications to anticoagulative treatment. The results are, however, not as good as with thrombolysis.

Experimental Central Retinal Artery Occlusion

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1968
In a series of 22 eyes of 19 squirrel monkeys, the central retinal artery (CRA) was ligated within the orbit. Serial fundus photography and fluorescein angiography demonstrated that this experimental model closely resembled the human disease. Histologically, there was massive swelling of the inner retinal layers followed by necrosis. Fine-structurally,

[Retinal artery occlusion].

Der Ophthalmologe : Zeitschrift der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft, 2017
Retinal artery occlusion leads to profound visual impairment in the affected eye. It is rarely caused by local ophthalmic pathologies. Most patients present with a large number of cardio- and cerebrovascular risk factors. Visual loss is the leading symptom in central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), whereas a circumscribed visual field defect is ...
