Anecdotal Response to Amphotericin in a Patient with Probable Susac Syndrome: Implications in the Pathogenesis

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 2019
Susac syndrome is a rare, probably immune-mediated endotheliopathy presenting with encephalopathy, sensorineural hearing loss and retinal arterial occlusions.

Recognizing Signs of Abusive Head Trauma

open access: yesJournal of Paediatrics and Child Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Abusive head trauma (AHT) remains the leading cause of fatal traumatic brain injury in infants and young children. Diagnosis is frequently delayed or missed due to nonspecific clinical presentation and unreliable histories, making neuroimaging a critical component of the diagnostic process. Objective This review synthesises computed

An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.

Non‐physician delivered intravitreal injection service: A systematic review of safety, implementation, training and patient experience

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 6, Page e615-e629, September 2026.
Abstract The global demand for intravitreal anti‐vascular endothelial growth factor (anti‐VEGF) therapy continues to rise, straining ophthalmic capacity worldwide. Task shifting from physicians to trained non‐physician healthcare professionals has emerged as a potential strategy to expand service delivery.

The oscillatory response of the electroretinogram and neuronal adaptation

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 6, Page 616-637, September 2026.
Abstract After more than 50 years, there still remains a challenge and an interest to know more as well as extend and deepen our understanding of the small rapid wavelets, the oscillatory potentials (OPs), of the electroretinogram (ERG) and the neuronal adaptation of the retina.

Clinical Features of Visual Disturbances in Leiden Thrombophilia

open access: yesOftalʹmologiâ, 2019
The hereditary thrombophilias is a well-recognized important risk factor for a systemic and local thromboembolic events development. The case of Leiden thrombophilia family inheritance concomitant by the visual disturbances development are shown in this ...

Revised Swedish visual field standards for a driver's licence: Threshold perimetry as a predictor of eligibility according to the current Swedish and current Norwegian suprathreshold standards

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 6, Page e709-e717, September 2026.
Abstract Purpose To explore whether threshold perimetry can predict fulfilment of the current Swedish and current Norwegian Esterman perimetry standards for Group 1 driver's licence, and differences in compliance between the former and current Swedish visual field standards.

Combined branch retinal vein and branch retinal artery occlusion – clinical features, systemic associations, and outcomes

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2017
Purpose: Retinal vascular occlusions affecting both the arterial and venous systems are rare events. Combined branch retinal artery (BRAO) and vein (BRVO) occlusion are exceedingly rare and not well characterized. Methods: Six patients with combined BRAO

Ultrasound, PET/CT or temporal artery biopsy for giant cell arteritis? A prospective diagnostic accuracy study (the GAME‐study)

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 6, Page e695-e708, September 2026.
Abstract Purpose To investigate the diagnostic performance of ultrasound, 2‐deoxy‐2‐[18F]fluoro‐D‐glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (2‐[18F]FDG PET/CT) and temporal artery biopsy (TAB) in giant cell arteritis (GCA). Methods This was a prospective single‐centre diagnostic accuracy study (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05248906).
