Ocular Perforation Following Retrobulbar Anesthesia for Retinal Detachment Surgery
We encountered three examples of the perforation of the globe by the retrobulbar needle in a series of 4,000 patients who had undergone retinal reattachment surgery with local anesthesia. The presence of significant myopia was a contributing factor in all three cases.

Repair of Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment Following Globe Perforation by Retrobulbar Anesthesia
Globe perforation following retrobulbar or peribulbar anesthetic injection is a rare but dreaded complication that often results in suboptimal visual outcomes. This video describes a 72-year-old woman who sustained a globe perforation during retrobulbar block in the setting of cataract extraction and later developed a retinal detachment. The retina was

Corneal Perforation Associated With Argon Laser Photocoagulation for a Retinal Tear
To report a corneal perforation during argon laser photocoagulation around a retinal tear following pneumatic retinopexy. The patient was examined and found to have a corneal perforation with pigment in the base of the wound. To help explain this phenomenon, we evaluated the ability of argon blue-green laser to create a corneal perforation in a cadaver ...

Inadvertent Scleral Perforation in Eye Muscle versus Retinal Detachment Buckle Surgery
Inadvertent scleral perforation is a recognized complication of eye muscle and retinal detachment buckle surgery. If these operations are performed by the same surgeon, it is unknown which of these procedures has a higher risk of scleral perforation. In the period from 1999 until 2004, 427 eyes of 317 patients were operated using eye muscle surgery and ...

Abstract. Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment followed peribulbar injection in a patient with preexisting sympathetic ophthalmia. Inadvertent globe perforation resulted in subsequent rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Scierai buckling and pars plana vitrectomy reattached the retina.
