Frankle-McCann Retinex by Shuffling

2012
In this paper, our aim is to present an alternative to the ratio-product term of Frankle-McCann Retinex by manipulating shifting directions and the number of iterations, which is a major obstacle in applications, keeping the quality of the result images.

On edge-aware path-based color spatial sampling for Retinex: from Termite Retinex to Light Energy-driven Termite Retinex

Journal of Electronic Imaging, 2017
Retinex theory estimates the human color sensation at any observed point by correcting its color based on the spatial arrangement of the colors in proximate regions. In this work, we revise two recent path-based, edge-aware Retinex implementations: Termite Retinex (TR) and Energy-driven Termite Retinex (ETR).

A Variational Model with Barrier Functionals for Retinex

SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences, 2015
Summary: This paper proposes a variational model with barriers for Retinex, borrowing the ideas of barrier methods. We first present an energy functional and then deduce a new energy functional from it by adding two barriers. The proposed model is defined as a constrained optimization problem associated with the deduced energy functional.

Retinex by Two Bilateral Filters

2005
Retinex theory deals with the removal of unfavorable illumination effects from images. This ill-posed inverse problem is typically regularized by forcing spatial smoothness on the recoverable illumination. Recent work in this field suggested exploiting the knowledge that the illumination image bounds the image from above, and the fact that the ...

Towards hardware-friendly retinex algorithms

Proceedings of the 10th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis, 2017
Retinex theory was among the first to introduce a model for simultaneous brightness adjustment and removal of illumination influence on image colors by supposedly emulating some aspects of the human visual system's behaviour. The main idea of most Retinex methods is to readjust color channel values of individual pixels with respect to their local white

Color Equalization and Retinex

2015
Color and illumination are two principal factors that influence human visual perception as well as imaging devices. However, an imaging device can neither discern colors nor adapt to different imaging environments as a human does. Consequently, it may produce images having a bad visual effect under a bad imaging environment.
