Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Ligand binding and homology modelling of insect odorant-binding proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This review describes the main characteristics of odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) for homology modelling and presents a summary of structure prediction studies on insect OBPs, along with the steps involved and some limitations and improvements.

Comparison of retinol binding protein 1 with cone specific G-protein as putative effector molecules in cryptochrome signalling

open access: yesScientific Reports
Vision and magnetoreception in navigating songbirds are strongly connected as recent findings link a light dependent radical-pair mechanism in cryptochrome proteins to signalling pathways in cone photoreceptor cells. A previous yeast-two-hybrid screening

Characterization of Three Novel Fatty Acid- and Retinoid-Binding Protein Genes (Ha-far-1, Ha-far-2 and Hf-far-1) from the Cereal Cyst Nematodes Heterodera avenae and H. filipjevi. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Heterodera avenae and H. filipjevi are major parasites of wheat, reducing production worldwide. Both are sedentary endoparasitic nematodes, and their development and parasitism depend strongly on nutrients obtained from hosts.

Retinol-Binding Protein 4 in Human Obesity [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes, 2006
Studies in mice suggest that adipocytes serve as glucose sensors and regulate systemic glucose metabolism through release of serum retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4). This model has not been validated in humans. RBP4 was highly expressed in isolated mature human adipocytes and secreted by differentiating human adipocytes.

An Integrative Strategy Delineates Modular Metabolic Remodeling and Potential Therapeutic Targets Across Metabolic Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrative single‐cell atlas across multiple metabolic diseases reveals coordinated metabolic modules and disease‐shared versus disease‐specific pathway activities. By systematically comparing scoring strategies, a robust RankAve framework is established. Coupled with network analysis and drug‐target prediction, this resource uncovers cross‐disease

The functions of y-box binding proteins in caenorhabditis elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Members of the highly conserved family of Y-box binding proteins (YBPs) have a broad spectrum of functions in both transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression.

Genus-level evolutionary relationships of FAR proteins reflect the diversity of lifestyles of free-living and parasitic nematodes

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2021
Background Nematodes are a widespread and diverse group comprising free-living and parasitic species, some of which have major detrimental effects on crops, animals, and human health. Genomic comparisons of nematodes may help reveal the genetic bases for

Degradation Mechanisms, Encapsulation‐Based Stabilization, and Analytical Detection of Vitamin A

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vitamin A is an important lipid‐soluble micronutrient essential for vision, immune function, and overall growth and development. However, vitamin A is unstable and susceptible to environmental factors because of its conjugated structure and inherent chemical reactivity.
