Three young women, offspring of a nonconsanguineous marriage of normal parents, manifested mild visual loss associated with a bilateral foveal dystrophy that resembled the macular involvement in juvenile sex-linked retinoschisis. Electrophysiologic and psychophysiologic tests showed less severe involvement than the gonosomal equivalent.

Histopathology of Juvenile Retinoschisis
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1968Our clinicopathologic data in a familial case of juvenile retinoschisis are presented. The schisis is seen histologically as a splitting of the sensory retina, predominantly within the nerve fiber layer. This site of splitting differs from that observed in the typical case of senile retinoschisis, in which the splitting occurs in the middle layers of ...

Surgical management of retinoschisis
Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 1997Most cases of X-linked juvenile retinoschisis and degenerative retinoschisis never require any type of surgical intervention. However, on rare occasions, associated problems such as retinal detachment come about and threaten the visual prognosis. Both conditions have in common the adherence of cortical vitreous to the inner layer of peripheral schisis ...

Ophthalmology, 2008To describe the efficacy of vitreous surgery to treat X-linked retinoschisis.Retrospective, comparative, interventional case series.Three patients (5 eyes) had foveal retinoschisis with peripheral retinoschisis. The patients' ages were 26, 7, and 17 years at the first surgery. The preoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/100 and 20/40 in
