Indications for Exploring the Retroperitoneal Space
Southern Medical Journal, 1980The retroperitoneal space is an area that deserves consideration in patients with serious bleeding problems. This area should be explored in all patients with a history of previous reconstructive vascular surgery of the abdominal aorta and iliac vessels and who subsequently present with gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

European Urology, 1979A precondition for ultrasonic diagnosis of the retroperitoneum is an optimal preparation of the patient to eliminate flatulence in the intestines. If the large vessels of the retroperitoneum are well demarcated, the optimal examination conditions are present. Tumorous and cystic changes of 2 cm or more, can be visualized.

Empyema necessitatis into the retroperitoneal space
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2002Empyema necessitatis is a rare complication of tuberculous empyema. We present a very rare case of empyema necessitatis into the retroperitoneal space through the diaphragm. The fistula between the thoracic empyema cavity and the retroperitoneal abscess was clearly identified by magnetic resonance imaging.

We describe the case of a 45-year-old woman with a clinical history of breast cancer presenting with anuric renal failure, metabolic acidosis and bilateral grade 2-3 hydronephrosis. Following insertion of bilateral ureteral stents, urinary output was 5000 ml in the subsequent 24 hours with frankly bloody urine, after which anuria recurred.

Polski merkuriusz lekarski : organ Polskiego Towarzystwa Lekarskiego, 1998Authors present a rare case of the pancreatic carcinoid. Diagnosis was based on clinical examination, ultrasonography, CT, and histopathological evaluation. The patient was operated on twice: (Whipple's procedure with the right hemicolectomy and then Roux-Y anastomosis). During follow-up the liver metastases appeared.
