Pro- and Retrospective Memory in Late Adulthood

Consciousness and Cognition, 2001
Everyday tasks, such as getting groceries en route from work, involve two distinct components, one prospective (i.e., remembering the plan) and the other retrospective (i.e., remembering the grocery list). The present investigation examined the size of the age-related performance declines in these components, as well as the relationship between these ...

A memory-based account of retrospective revaluation.

Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology / Revue canadienne de psychologie expérimentale, 2010
We adapt an instance model of human memory, Minerva 2, to simulate retrospective revaluation. In the account, memory preserves the events of individual trials in separate traces. A probe presented to memory contacts all traces in parallel and causes each to become active.

The contribution of retrospective memory, attention and executive functions to the prospective and retrospective components of prospective memory following TBI

Brain Injury, 2011
Despite the prevalence of prospective memory (PM) problems, relatively little is known about the processes underlying impairment following TBI. This study sought to examine PM performance, using a multiple-task, multiple-response video-based paradigm in which initial encoding of the cue-action associations was ensured (Video-Assessment of Prospective ...

Remote Memory in Retrospect

1994
I first encountered the phenomenon of remote memory early in my sabbatical leave in San Diego in 1984. Nelson was preparing a lecture on the neuropsychology of alcoholic Korsakoff’s (AK) syndrome, and as was his habit, he practiced the talk at a meeting of the Psychology Service.

Affect and Memory in Retrospective Reports

1994
Retrospective reports have long served as the warhorses of experimental and nonexperimental psychologists, although in both classic and contemporary discussions of method, the validity of retrospective reports to understand human thought has been questioned (Ericsson & Simon, 1980; James, 1890/1950; Nisbett & Wilson, 1977). Psychological data are often

Design-Effects in Prospective and Retrospective Memory for Actions

Experimental Psychology, 2003
There is ample evidence that memory for action phrases such as “open the bottle” is better in subject-performed tasks (SPTs), i.e., if the participants perform the actions, than in verbal tasks (VTs), if they only read the phrases or listen to them.

Prospective memory: Relationship to age and retrospective memory in the learning and memory battery (LAMB)

The Clinical Neuropsychologist, 1995
Abstract Sixty-four individuals were given the Learning and Memory Battery (LAMB), which consists of a series of retrospective learning tasks. Embedded within the LAMB was a prospective memory task, requiring individuals to respond with a different word or phrase (target response) each time one of the LAMB subtests was introduced.

Is Prospective Memory Unique? A Comparison of Prospective and Retrospective Memory

2017
Abstract Research on prospective memory (PM), remembering to fulfill a future intention, has grown quickly over the past two decades. Yet, researchers are still investigating how PM and retrospective memory (RM) differ in processing, and how PM is affected by various factors that have been shown to influence RM either positively or negatively.

Cortisol levels and prospective and retrospective memory in humans.

Neuro endocrinology letters, 2005
The aim of this study was to examine (i) the influence of cortisol on both prospective and retrospective memory performance and (ii) the role of emotional valence in both types of memory.Thirty-four male students participated in a memory task, which measured both prospective and retrospective memory performance.
