ALE-based ductile damage and fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Mixed methods have been used with success in finite strain elasto-plastic with damage for decades. The subsequent stage is now dealt with enrichment methods, either local such as SDA or global such as XFEM.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

The use of satellite data for agriculture drought risk quantification in Ukraine

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2016
This paper focuses on drought risk assessment using satellite data. Methods of the extreme value theory (EVT) are applied for a time series of vegetation health index (VHI) derived from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellites in ...

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

Advanced Diagnostics of Electrons Escaping from Laser-Produced Plasma

open access: yesPlasma
This article provides an up-to-date overview of the problems associated with the detection of hot electrons escaping from laser-produced plasma and corresponding return current flowing from the ground to the target, which neutralises the positive charge ...

Mapping Cosmic Dawn and Reionization: Challenges and Synergies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Cosmic dawn and the Epoch of Reionization (EoR) are among the least explored observational eras in cosmology: a time at which the first galaxies and supermassive black holes formed and reionized the cold, neutral Universe of the post-recombination era ...

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Identification of nonlinear kinematic hardening parameters for sheet metal from biaxial loading tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this work an anisotropic material model at finite strains with nonlinear mixed (isotropic and kinematic) hardening is used for the identification of the hardening parameters of sheet steel.
