About an approximate method to solve the static boundary value problems in the isotropic hardening elastic-plastic solid

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2006
The paper presents the theory, model, weak form, finite element method and return-mapping algorithm for the isotropic hardening elastic-plastic problem. Then applying the algorithm to numerically simulate a variety of plane strain problems.

Solution of problem of returning to the starting point of autonomously flying UAV by visual navigation

open access: yesInformatika, 2020
An autonomous visual navigation algorithm is considered, designed for “home“ return of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with on-board video camera and on-board computer, out of GPS and GLONASS navigation signals.

Effects of return periods on flood hazard mapping: an analysis of the UFSC Campus Basin, Florianópolis city, Brazil

open access: yesRBRH, 2021
The development of urban areas exacerbates flood risk by increasing both runoff and the exposure of population and infrastructure. In this study, we highlight the importance of return period choice on flood hazard degree and flood hydraulics ...

On decomposing mixed-mode oscillations and their return maps [PDF]

open access: yesChaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2011
Alternating patterns of small and large amplitude oscillations occur in a wide variety of physical, chemical, biological, and engineering systems. These mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs) are often found in systems with multiple time scales. Previous differential equation modeling and analysis of MMOs have mainly focused on local mechanisms to explain the ...

Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

From Exile to Homeland Return: Ethnographic Mapping to Inform Peacebuilding from Afar

open access: yesStability : International Journal of Security and Development, 2020
When violent conflict flares up, forced migration often follows. Ethnographic data shows that forced migrants remain attached to their places of origin and often express a desire to return once conflict has abated, be it after weeks, months, or years ...

Mapping the Return of Argentine Researchers

open access: yesScience, Technology and Society, 2015
Since 2003 the Argentine government runs the RAÍCES Programme (Network of Argentine Researchers and Scientists Abroad). This programme has been designed to mitigate the negative effects of the loss of skilled human resources. This study will address one of the main programme results of the RAÍCES Programme: the return of an important group of Argentine
