The study of acoustic noise and the reverberation of acoustic signals is of importance because one or other of these phenomena will set the limit to sonar system performance. Whilst it is true that both sources of corruption can co-exist, it is most common to find that one of the two will predominate.

Reverberation is a typical auditory event in the time domain. Assuming a random superposition, the exponential and Rayleigh distributions are derived for the sound energy and amplitude distributions in a room indicating that the sound field is no longer uniform.

Shoes have long been an essential accessory for human beings. The earliest known shoes date back around 10,000 years ago, but most likely the connection between our feet and protective coverings dates back much farther. Initially, shoes were plant material such as bark or hemp rope, but as crafting techniques increased in complexity, these materials ...

Reverberation and Signal Delay
1992Acoustical reverberation chambers, often referred to as “echo” chambers, date from the 1930s and were used primarily for special effects in motion picture production. Their introduction into the mainstream of recording dates from the late 1940s. The early systems were mono-phonic, and natural stereo perspectives were difficult to achieve, even with a ...

Chapter 11 explores the death of the contributor’s mother from suicide when the contributor was 1 year old. It discusses depression that had permeated his mother’s life, as well as a mismatch in style between her and her husband’s family, has reverberated through the contributor’s life and the lives of his relatives for seven decades in untruth ...
