On the asymptotic flux of ultrapermeable seawater reverse osmosis membranes due to concentration polarisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Just as thermodynamic considerations impose a finite limit on the energy requirements of reverse osmosis, concentration polarisation imposes a finite limit on flux, or equivalently, on system size.

The concentrating of alizarin using a reverse osmosis process [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2005
Membrane technologies in general and reverse osmosis in particular have been employed for the concentrating of solutions. In this study, the concentrating of a heat sensitive alizarin extracted from madder root was realized using an FT30 reverse osmosis ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Covalently bonded interfaces for polymer/graphene composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The interface is well known for taking a critical role in the determination of the functional and mechanical properties of polymer composites. Previous interface research has focused on utilising reduced graphene oxide that is limited by a low structural

Ultra-strong polymeric hollow fiber membranes for saline dewatering and desalination

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Osmotically assisted reverse osmosis can overcome limitations of the reverse osmosis process but a strong membrane which can withstand a high hydraulic pressure is crucial.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Recovery of Water and Salt from Hyper-Saline Mine Water using Freeze Crystallization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Freezerbacks researched, designed, and economically evaluated a full-scale freeze crystallization process as well as two alternative full-scale processes: 5 stage multiple effect evaporation and reverse osmosis.

Critical flux-based membrane fouling control of forward osmosis: Behavior, sustainability, and reversibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Membrane fouling is closely related to the concept of critical flux. Therefore, a fouling control strategy for forward osmosis (FO) membranes that is based on the critical flux is necessary.
