Counting Cycles in Reversible Cellular Automata

2012
This paper reports characterization of 1-D cellular automata (CA) state space to count the cycles of reversible CA. The reachability tree provides theoretical framework to identify number of cycles in reversible CA. However, we concentrate here on a special class of reversible CA that follow right independence property.

Intractable problems in reversible cellular automata

International Journal of Theoretical Physics, 1988
The billiard ball model, a classical mechanical system in which all parameters are real variables, can perform all digital computations. An eight-state, 11-neighbor reversible cellular automaton (an entirely discrete system in which all parameters are integer variables) can simulate this model.

Self-reproduction in Reversible Cellular Automata

2017
J. von Neumann first showed that machine self-reproduction is possible using the framework of cellular automaton (CA). In his CA, self-reproducing objects have universality in both computing and construction, and thus they were very complex. Later, Langton relaxed this condition, and designed a simple selfreproducing automaton.

Reversible Elementary Triangular Partitioned Cellular Automata

2017
A three-neighbor triangular partitioned cellular automaton (TPCA) is a CA such that each cell is triangular-shaped and has three parts. A TPCA is called an elementary TPCA (ETPCA), if it is rotation-symmetric, and each part of a cell has only two states.
