Differentiated factors drive the spatial heterogeneity of ecosystem services in Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2023
Exploring the driving factors of changing ecosystem services is critical for supply capacity maintaining and ecological management zoning. Xinjiang of Northwest China, is considered one of the most fragile ecological environment areas.

Self‐Assembling Copolymers Encapsulating Single Endothelial Cells Induce Endogenous ECM Deposition and Vascular Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the first demonstration of stable sub‐50‐micron single‐cell GPM vesicles fabricated through the intrinsic self‐assembly of an amphiphilic copolymer. Hierarchical assembly of cell containing GPM vesicles into microspheres enable tunable, sustained cell delivery with immune protection.

Wind Speed and Vegetation Coverage in Turn Dominated Wind Erosion Change With Increasing Aridity in Africa

open access: yesEarth's Future
Wind erosion is one of the main causes of land degradation and desertification. Clarifying the spatiotemporal variations of wind erosion and the dominant factors of its spatial characteristics and the temporal trend will contribute to the establishment ...

Spatiotemporal evolution of ecosystem services and its potential drivers in coalfields of Shanxi Province, China

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2023
Coal contributes considerably to economic and social development. Its economic benefits have been in focus, whereas the ecosystem services (ESs) that coalfields provide have been largely neglected, and the research on driving force is not deep enough. We

Fabrication of Fibers With Complex Features Using Thermal Drawing of 3D‐Printed Preforms

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
3D printing enables rapid fabrication of macroscale polymer preforms with complex geometries. Thermal drawing then scales these structures into long fibers while preserving micron‐scale cross‐sectional features. This workflow provides a fast, low‐cost route to functional fibers with tailored geometries and material combinations for catheter, robotic ...

Quantitative Analysis of Wind Erosion Drivers Using Explainable Artificial Intelligence: A Case Study from Inner Mongolia, China

open access: yesLand
Wind erosion is a multidimensional, dynamic process driven by natural and anthropogenic factors, but existing statistical methods struggle to capture its complex nonlinear relationships, resulting in incomplete quantification of drivers and their spatial

CEMSYS modelled wind erosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
[Executive Summary]: The Leys report on wind and water erosion (Leys et al. 2009b) recommended that wind erosion modelling be undertaken to assist in reporting the extent and severity of wind erosion across Australia.

Programmable Pneumatic Actuator System for a Bioinspired Artificial Colon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A modular soft robotic colon simulator driven by programmable pneumatic actuation is developed to mimic physiological and pathological‐like motility patterns of the large intestine. Finite element–guided design and distributed control enable anatomically realistic deformation for peristalsis, segmentation, and mass movements, supporting capsule ...

Effects of recreation and environment upon the erosion of mountain footpaths in the Lake District National Park. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Increasing numbers of walkers in mountain areas have led to concern about the deterioration of footpaths through the erosion of vegetation and soil. Sites were established to monitor path erosion by repeated measurements of cross sections.

Soft Robotic Excretory Care Simulator for Nursing Education: Functional and Perceptual Biomimetics Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A soft robotic simulator is developed to replicate the digital removal of feces (DRF), a sensitive yet essential nursing procedure. Integrating soft actuators, sensors, and a realistic rectal model, the simulator balances functional fidelity with perceptual realism. Engineering evaluations and nurse feedback confirm its potential to enhance training in
